Think before you speak
A king asked his minister to compile a list of blind people in his kingdom. The minister got busy compiling the list and was often absent from the court. One day, however, the king saw the minister outside the palace. He was digging the earth. The king asked, "What are you doing?" The minister said nothing. The king repeated his question, "What are you doing?" Again, the minister remained quiet. The king shrugged his shoulders and left.
A few days later the minister appeared in the court and presented a long list of blind people in the kingdom. The first name on the list was that of the king. Outraged, the king asked, "What is the meaning of this? I am not blind." The witty minister replied, "My lord! You saw me digging the earth and still asked what I was doing. So, I thought you had lost your sight."
We all speak wrongly. The more we speak, the more chances there are of saying something wrong. Restraint is recommended in all areas of life, including speaking. Before opening your mouth and allowing words to escape, think whether or not you should speak them.
A wise person has said, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Benjamin Franklin said, "Speak not but what can benefit others or yourself, avoid trifling conversations."
Yours, Didi Ji
