Look within for happinessWe tend to look towards the outside world for happiness that we seek in life. Thinking intimate friends and family members to be sources of happiness, we beg them to give it to us. When we experience dissatisfaction with a friend we are quick to search for another, and then another, and then another. The same can be said of a spouse. Undoubtedly this is the reason behind a person getting married multiple times in life.
Expecting there to be happiness in money and material goods, we go shopping. A great number of people attest to experiencing a feeling of euphoria after making purchases online or at the mall. Those who can afford it, buy a Rolls Royce, a yacht or even a chateau on a whim. There is no doubt that all this makes them happy. The question is, for how long?
The premise that there is happiness in people and objects is absolutely incorrect. If this were true, everyone in the world would be happy at all times with every object and person. Alcohol makes the alcoholic happy, but not his wife or children. Chocolate does not bring happiness to one and all. Your adorable child does not bring your neighbors the same joy that she brings to you.
We are looking towards other people, objects and places to make us happy, all the while having access to true happiness living inside of us. We are like the fish dying of thirst while living in water.
If you wish to find happiness you must look within.
Yours, Didi Ji
