We seem to remember certain events and facts, but completely forget others. A man who remembers the batting average of major league baseball players forgets his own wedding anniversary year after year. A child who remembers with great accuracy what the teacher has said in the classroom, fails to remember what her mother tells her day after day.
Our memory is as sharp as tacks when it comes to remembering the mistakes of others, yet we fail to remember their virtues. We remember the unkind behavior and rude words spoken by a coworker, but forget all the help the same person has extended many times. Our mind is like a sponge in many cases but a sieve in others. For instance, we remember all the rules and regulations of traffic and the legal system, but forget the eternal laws of God.
'Random memory' is fine for the computer, but not for humans. We must actively choose to remember all that is useful and beneficial for us. Work on remembering the good that has come your way, the various blessings you have received from God, the encouragement you have received through others at difficult times in your life, the helping hand your friends have given you, and the wonderful life lessons you have learned through hardship.
By remembering the good and letting go of the bad, you will shape your mind to be a very beautiful mind indeed.
Yours,
Didi Ji
