When
someone pushes us into doing something, we assert our independence and say,
"Don't be so bossy; don't tell me what to do." The other person may have our best
interest at heart and following his advice may be good for us, but the fact is
that we don't like to be bossed around.
Then why are we
willingly being bossed around by our unruly mind? Whenever the mind tells us to eat, we
eat. However long it wants us to
sleep, we sleep. Whatever our mind
tells us to do, we do. No matter
what the mind says to us, we listen.
Despite knowing that the mind is mischievous, we allow it to be our
boss. At the same time we say that
we are free to do what we like.
Stop this
bossiness by going against the mind.
If the mind says, "There is no way I am going to eat spinach," make sure
to eat spinach. Tell your mind that
spinach is very tasty. If your mind
says, "I don't like exercising," tell your mind, "Exercising is a lot of
fun." If your mind tells you that
you should not get up early, insist on being an early bird. Put your foot down when it comes to your
mind, and you will see that you will become the ruler of your mind. The spinach will seem tasty; exercise
will become a habit, and waking early will become addictive.
Make the mind
your slave, and it will obey all your commands.
Yours,
Didi Ji
