Never give up learning

As infants, we have the entire world to explore, and we look at everything and everyone with eyes full of wonder.  A child starts discovering the world with all his five senses, and the process of discovery is incredibly interesting.  The child explores with such great speed that parents cannot keep up with him.  He keeps learning throughout school and college.  And then something strange happens!  He stops learning.  Studies show that 42% of college graduates don't ever read a book again.  Why?  Because generally it is thought that you must learn in your childhood and youth, but stop learning after that.

We hear of many people who started learning something new at an advanced age.  When arthritis prevented her from embroidering, Grandma Moses started painting in her seventies.  She went on to become a renowned artist.  Cato, the wise man of ancient Rome, was about 80 years of age when he started learning Greek.  Despite all his accomplishments, Michelangelo, the inventor, poet, engineer, sculptor of David, painter of the Sistine Chapel and architect of St. Peter's Basilica was 87 years old when he declared, "Ancora Imparo," i.e. "I am still learning."

It is not age but attitude which puts an end to our learning process.  If you choose to believe that 'you cannot teach an old dog new tricks,' you will not bother to start learning anything new.  But if you fully believe that 'you are never too old to learn,' you will never stop acquiring knowledge.

We are all life-long students.  Never give up learning.

Yours,

Didi Ji
