Avoid Excess
We
are living in the Age of Excess, with America leading the way. Houses are built with walk-in closets
which can easily accommodate 5-6 people.
There are homes so cluttered with things that if there is ever a move,
even 20 large trucks will not be enough to move all the possessions. And then there are people who do not
know how many homes they own.Obesity
rate is high in America and is fast spreading to different countries of the
world. Junk food is the order of
the day. As my plane was touching
down in the beautiful city of Quito, one of the first landmarks I saw was
KFC. In India people are eating
junk food more than ever before, considering it the 'in' thing to eat at
McDonald's and Pizza Hut.
Go
to a mall in Gurgaon near Delhi, and you will not be able to tell the difference
between that mall and one in the U.S.
The construction of ever higher buildings seems to be a feather in the
cap of countries, and Dubai has topped it all with the construction of Burj
Khalifa.
Nothing
is the same as before. Cell phones
and other such gadgets are getting fancier and fancier, with more and more
memory and ever-increasing features.
More and more people are setting their standards by looking at Hollywood
and Bollywood.
Even countries that cannot afford basics for their citizens are buying into 'the
American dream.' We must be
cautious, lest the Dream turn into a Nightmare.
Make
it your personal choice to avoid excess.
Yours, Didi Ji

Song of the Week
God hit, Jhagrat Sundar Shyam, a song from the album Ore Jadugar, has been added to our website. Written by Shri Maharaj Ji and sung beautifully by Anup Jalota, this bhajan describes a unique leela in which Shri Krishna is vying for Mother Yashoda's attention who is busy with her household chores.
