How are your legs for the WALK?

Each night when I tuck my youngest into bed I'm convinced her legs grew another few inches that day. It seems to be significant eoungh to give me pause. Growth spurts surprise us all the time.  Suddenly our toddlers are inching up, out of their little girl jeans and into adolescence. Suddenly our teenagers are young adults.

I wonder how God sees our spiritual legs ... growing in big growth spurts, building muscles from spiritual lessons and a few callouses on our feet from serving in hard places?  Or does God see weak knees that are stiff and wobbly, spiritual muscles unfit for a good walk around the block with God?

I laugh all the time that I'd love to have the legs of my youthful daughters! Toned with muscle, strength, and youth. They complain about the training workouts their coach puts them through and yet the strong muscles they build helps them survive those big moments when the pressure is on.

For most women, great legs are temporal, a fleeting time in the years of our youth. But for ALL women, spiritually toned legs brings an enduring beauty that provides stamina, strength, and grace. I want those legs. I want to be spiritually toned for the challenges life has for me. I want to be able to climb over hurdles life presents and dance thru some dark days.

What about your spiritual legs?  Are you working them in the wisdom of God's Word?  Are you bending at the knee with some vigorous lunges of humility and submission? Are you building muscles for spiritual strength?

Let's work hard together, encouraging each other in the hard work of spiritual disciplines... prayer, study of God's Word, and serving,
Let's exercise our faith in big ways.
Let's have great legs!

The Mystery of Answered Prayer  praying woman

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for pwer, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing I asked for but everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, most richly blessed.

[at the end of the Civil War, this prayer was found folded in the pocket of a confederate soldier.]

Aprons and thingsapron
We moved my 82 year old aunt,  widowed for 40 years, up from Houston last month. My father's only brother married his young bride and moved to Texas in the early 60's. They never had children and he died at a young age, leaving my aunt a very young widow living very far away.

After all these years she's back with us, still as sweet and pretty as I remember her as a child. Going thru her memories together with ours has woven us together with threads of family, faith, and funny stories.

One memory was jogged in an old photo of my grandmother -- my aunt's mother in law -- a photo of grandmom in her apron.  We all remember the family Thanksgiving gatherings with the classic apron!  Do they make these anymore?

I was reminded of this writing:
The History of the APRON...
[author unknown]

I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material.
But along with that, it served as:

A potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.
And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the autumn, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes. We would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. But I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron. Just a whole pile of love.

History of Israel
israel
Two weeks ago we were inspired and challenged to learn of a God who has shown himself throughout history to be a God of providence, protection, promise and blessing.

Karen Hicks shared with us a teaching on the History of Israel through a Biblical timeline, and we followed the footsteps of God's chosen people from the time of the Patriarch's through current day.

We were amazed and blessed to learn more of our God's character through history... Elohim, Mighty Creator, El Shadday, God Almighty from whom all blessings flow, and Yahweh, Covenant Lord.
