Winter Wisdom
|
"...He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." Daniel 2:21

|
Winter is the season with the shortest days and coldest nights. Winter brings colors of icy blue, pallets of grey, and pristine white coverings of snow against crisp brilliant blue skies. Winter brings mugs of steamy coffee, hot cocoa and toasty fires. Winter brings quiet, cold and sometimes frozen moments... Winter is a beautiful season that challenges us to find warmth.
Winter brings a promise. What can easily be forgotten in winter's cold and occasional dreariness
is that winter can be a time of shoring up, of purity, praise, delightful rest, reflection, and spiritual growth. Winter gives us the chance to pause from the busy work in our gardens, needed rest in the soil for growth that will come with Spring. In winter, deep down the soil is embracing and warming the roots that you have planted.
Winter is like midnight. It's the moment when the most profound things are happening, things that only God can see. In that moment of dark quiet stillness we find joy in a place of rest and intimacy. This is the time when we can meet with God, in quiet solitude, seeking His warmth admist the icy breezes of our spiritual winters. This is the necessary dormant season of our soul where the hardest work of our hearts is accomplished. The biggest need we have in a season of winter is to truly let God in...to be still...to wait for Him amidst the quiet places in our soul.
Pursue the promise of winter... of joy deep down in the quiet places. Joy found, in the dark, winter, still moments... with God alone.
"...let your roots go down deep into the marvelous soil of His love..."

Wisdom in Prayer
Last week our nation inaugurated a new president. Democracy provided for a peaceful transition of our leaders -- a new president and an administration who needs our prayers. There is no better time to renew our commitment to pray for our leaders than the start of a new presidential administration. Barack Obama needs our prayers and we should give them freely and eagerly no matter how we may have voted...[read more] |

Winter can be long and cold, but each season has it's treasures... don't overlook the uniquess of this season...crisp outtings and brisk walks, great skiing and warm scarves, snowdays and school delays, an excuse to stay in and enjoy our homes and each another... and of course the best treasures -- new friendships and fresh insights from God's Word.
Be blessed by the crisp breezes and even the icy chill... a reminder of all God's promises,
Warmly,
Louann Rodgers and the entire women's leadership team
