About Christ Community

Only 20 days until Spring!

March. The edge of winter and the tip of spring...
March brings winds of discontent and breezes of possibilities...

"Beyond the bitter winds that blow, a breeze awaits to greet
To bring in sun kissed golden rod and tender grass so sweet.
Just as the winter fades away to this one hope I cling,
Our God, who gives the winter wind will surely bring the spring."

Tulips in the Snow

...anticipating the blooms
tulips in snow

This time of year we face the lingering paleness of winter and long for the rich greens of spring. We suffer through the last of the flu season and ache for the sweet familiar smells of springtime. A dear friend told me yesterday that she is groaning in 'the wait' ... she is longing for more, for a new season, but more... to see Jesus face to face.

Tulips in the snow remind us that God is at work all around us. God is at work in places hidden and dark. God is at work in the coldness when we are frantically seeking the warmth. The bright color of a new tulip or crocus brings a lift in our spirit. This Scripture from Isaiah expresses this joy,

"...the wilderness will rejoice and blossom; like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy...
they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God."
(Isaiah 35:2-3)

Sometimes we get impatient in the 'wait' of our circumstances, our disappointments, our longings. We fret and scramble, restless and uncomfortable. Rest in knowing God is working in the wait. Below those snowy piles of stress and difficult places, treasures are growing.

Journeying Together

...blessings of spiritual friendships

"The purpose of journeying together in spiritual friendship and spiritual community ... is to listen to one another's desire for God, to nurture that desire in each other and to support one another in seeking a way of life that is onsistent with that desire. Spiritual friendship is not for advice giving, problem solving and fixing.

Rather, it is to assist one another in paying attention to the movements of God in our lives through the spiritual disciplines and to support another in resopnding faithfully to God's presence." - - - - Ruth Haley Barton, "Sacred Rythms"

8 Reminders to Wake up Early and Consistently...

"I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love." - Psalm 59:16

  • You Have a Great Reason ... the most important moments of your day are spent with God! Meet Him early and listen for his whispers of love and guidance.
  • Write it Down ... It’s one thing to know why you want to get up early, it’s another to be committed to it. Writing it down organizes your thinking and firms your commitment.
  • Ignore Your First Reaction ... we all want to roll over! Don't hit the snooze button -- persist in your commitment and look for an unexpected blessing.
  • Be Purposeful ... plan in advance with how your newfound time will look -- select a Scripture Reading Plan, or spend the time in prayer, listening, perhaps begin journaling, put on worship music and stretch -- make a plan so you will ENJOY this special time.
  • Relinquish the urge to DO ... just be... soak up the early morning hues in the sky, enjoy the quietness of a still house, let your mind focus on God rather than self. Self brings activity, to-do lists, and a whirlwind of activity. Just BE. Even if only for a few moments, just BE.
  • Yes, Get Up Early On the Weekend! ... a regular routine will become regular if you persist -- it takes 21 days to develop a new habit.
  • Just DO IT ... just do it and you will be blessed. Remember God's faithfulness and you will see a heart of gratitude and spirit of joy, don't miss one blessing God has for you.
