About Christ Community

Happy New Year!... the calendar has turned to a new year, a fresh start, a new beginning, a gift ... what will you do with it?

The Gift of a New Year...

...my resolutions shared
new year cake

Have you already unwrapped your gift of this new year?

Every new day is a gift, but somehow I'm always unwrapping mine in haste, ribbons and bows tossed aside too quickly. I get busy, slice up the cake and start serving.

This year, I'm pondering this GIFT and still looking at the ribbons, I'm waiting patiently to slice the cake, knowing that God is calling me to some real resolutions...

GRATITUDE...
Not for abundance and blessing, but for the hard times that bring difficult and unexpected lessons, for the joy of discovering a hidden treasure under the dirty soil of my everyday toilings.

INTEGRITY...
Not just of word and deed, but of heart... resolving to do the difficult job of tearing down pride and control, of seeking God's heart and will, not mine.

FAITHFULNESS...
Not purely for believing in God, but in believing that God's plan for me is perfect, and that I can rest in that assurance despite my circumstances.

TIME...
Not because it is expected, but because time with God and for God is a reflection of the perfect love He gives me.

So this is my G-I-F-T for the New Year, resolved to...
Gratitude - Integrity - Faithfulness - Time.

Questions for a New Year...

...that we all need to consider.

Even those most faithful to God occasionally need to pause and think about the direction of their lives. It's so easy to bump along from one busy week to another without ever stopping to ponder where we're going and where we should be going. The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to stop, look up and get our bearings.

A New Year of Bible Study...

... join us this week as Women's Bible Study resumes ...
wheat on bible

Start out the year with the best book you can read this year... God's Word.

Women's Bible Study resumes this week with TWO NEW studies, in addition to our weekly study sessions:

  • Age of Opportunity, by Paul David Tripp, the Biblical perspective on the heart of the parent.
  • Seeking Him, by Nancy Leigh DeMoss, a study of personal revival.

Join us as we gather each week for friendship and connection in small groups, meaningful discussions, Biblical teaching, insight, and spiritual challenge.
    • Tuesday evenings, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
    • Wednesday mornings, 9:15 - 11:15 a.m.
    • Thursday mornings, 9:15 - 11:15 a.m.
Questions? Call or email Louann (below).
Bring a friend. All are welcome!

  • If I Really Believed...

...that eternity waited for me on the other side of this brief life,

    If I really believed

I would fear less and risk more...
I would live my life more like a pilgrim and less like a packrat...
I would be more concerned with being a friend than being without friends...
I would be more comfortable with weakness and less trusting of control...
I would pray more and process less...
I would be more concerned with souls and less impatient with personalities...
I would expend more energy worshiping and less worrying...
The world would see God more, and I would see me less...

    if I really believed.

EIGHT GIFTS that don't cost a cent...
Let's resolve to give bunches of these gifts this year!

    1. THE GIFT OF LISTENING... But, you must REALLY listen. No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response, just listening!
    2. THE GIFT OF AFFECTION... Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.
    3. THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER... Share joy! Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say "I love to laugh with you."
    4. THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE... It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten note may be mremembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.
    5. THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT... A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job" or "That was a wonderful meal" can really make someone's day.
    6. THE GIFT OF A FAVOR... Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.
    7. THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE... There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.
    8. THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION... The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really it's note that hard to say, "Hello" or "Thank You."

Family and our friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us. Show those you love how much you care.
