This month's speaker:
Justin Kiddy
(McCay, Kiddy & Assoc)

Fraud in your organization: Is it possible?
How to defend against it?

Justin Kiddy
Justin Kiddy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Frostburg State University in Western Maryland.  He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the state of South Carolina and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

He has practiced public accounting as a CPA for 13 years with regional and local accounting firms and is currently a Partner with McCay, Kiddy & Associates, LLC in Mount Pleasant.

A large portion of Justin's assurance and fraud experience comes via a heavy concentration in conducting financial statement audits.  For the first 10 years in public accounting, he conducted approximately 15 audits annually of companies and organizations.

Justin is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and its Forensic & Valuation Services Section, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and its local chapter, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the National Society of Accountants, and the South Carolina Association of Public Charter Schools. For more on our speaker, click here!

Welcome to hell...

... at least, that's what it feels like some days recently.  And I suspect the real heat hasn't shown itself yet.  Most of you know how August will feel.  Like your skin is made of butter and simply begins to melt as soon as you step outside.

BUT ... WE HAVE FREE AIR CONDITIONING!

MPBA AC poster

This heat is all the more reason to come to this Thursday's meeting.  The Holiday Inn is air conditioned and the food is good.  What better place to spend a Thursday midday?  You get to rub elbows with other local business professionals in an air-conditioned, sun-less banquet room as well as hear a great presentation from member Justin Kiddy, who will be speaking about financial fraud - an important topic in our current business and economic climate.

Okay, so maybe I'm going a bit overboard with the "FREE Air Conditioning!" bit.  But heck, it worked for movie theaters in the 1950's.  Worth a shot.

Seriously, though, I hope you can join us this Thursday at the Holiday Inn.  Our agenda is nicely loose this month so you'll have plenty of time to socialize and network with other members and guests.  I look forward to seeing you there.

MPBPA is on FACEBOOK

FacebookFor those of you who have become involved with the hottest social network out there - Facebook - you can now join the MPBPA Facebook group. We intend to develop this as an adjunct to our website as a method to share information and communicate with one another.

Because it has been asked, be aware that joining our Facebook group does not automatically make other MPBPA Facebook members your friends. It's simply a way to keep up with the MPBPA.

Please join our Facebook group to network, stay informed and further extend the wonderful connections you've made at the meetings. Click the link below to go to our new page and contribute:

New/Returning Member Profiles

Are you interested in talking about what you do for a living to a group of 100 or so highly-motivated, entrepreneurial, forward-thinking business professionals? Are you blessed with the oratorical skills to state your case in a reasonably succinct manner, bravely fighting the urge to ramble or otherwise cloud your meaningful message? Can you explain everything anyone would ever want to know about you and your business in a minute-and-a-half? Are you a member of the Mount Pleasant Business and Professional Association?

If your answer to even one of these questions, including the last one, is yes, you are a prime candidate to make your "new member" or "returning member" presentation at an MPBPA meeting this year. You'll have 90 seconds to network with every influential business professional in the room.

We're booked through our March meeting, and a few slots already have been filled for the rest of the year. Please call, write or confront me at the next MPBPA meeting if you are interested in taking advantage of this great opportunity to market your business.
