The summer has just slipped right by and it's almost fall, though there's not much hint of that here in Southern California. In fact, I'm planning my annual excursion to Catalina Island next month for the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival and I hope to see you there! So, what did you do on your summer vacation? I always loved that question when I was a kid. It was so fun to hear what all the other kids did and it would cheer me up since we had to be back indoors. I've been busy and hanging with some of Jazz's finest. You'll see some new CD's coming out and you might want to check out the cover art! And if you're coming to the Catalina Festival, be sure and check out the official merchandise for some Miner Works of Art. While you're there, I hope you will say hello and take in the Jazz Art Exhibit that I'm bringing to Catalina for the festival. I've been a bad girl (or a very busy artist) and haven't stayed in touch with you much this summer. Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival October 2008 ~ Avalon Casino Ballroom Bettie is taking her Jazz Art collection to Catalina Island for the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival all three weekends! Limited Edition Giclees on canvas of your favorite smooth jazz artists and lots of new music inspired art will be on exhibit. If you'll be coming to Catalina, please drop by to say hello to Bettie and see what's new! You will find the exhibit on the Mezzanine level of the Avalon Casino Ballroom. P.S. For those of you planning a weekend to Avalon I'd like to share a little gem of a hotel that I discovered on Catalina Island. The El Terado Terrace has mini suites at hotel prices. The suites are recently remodeled with full kitchens, big screen TV's, wireless internet, and lots of other amenities. They'll even provide transportation between the boat dock and hotel for you! Here is a little note from the owner, Bruce Ellison: "We have just remodeled our Mini Suite Hotel. It's all new. The suites are a spacious 300 to 400 square feet with full granite kitchens, completely equipped, full sized refrigerators and stoves. The rooms feature king and double/double beds, new large 37" flat screen TV's and classic Catalina art by a local artist. Several rooms have ocean views. We also have a private sunbathing patio, another garden patio with BBQ facilities surrounded by palm trees and flowers. We are looking forward to seeing you." "Spaghettini Bar" by Bettie Grace Miner In celebration of Spaghettini Grill & Jazz Club's 20th Anniversary, a new series of art by Bettie Grace Miner made it's debut "performance" to rave reviews. You can catch "The Midnight Show" by Bettie Grace Miner at any hour of the day or night (or at least any hour that Spaghettini's is open) ~ including Midnight. The Midnight Show is a series of music inspired fine art that can be hung as an entire collection or just one piece. They all coordinate with each other, and the collection is growing. There are nine pieces from the collection on permanent exhibit at Spaghettini's. They include a Piano Player, Torch Singer, Percussionist, Saxophone Player, Trumpet Player, Trombone Player, Stand Up Bassist, Guitarist and Drummer. Click "The Midnight Show" link below for a preview. The Midnight Show Giclees are 30"x30". The edition is limited to 50. Each Giclee is texture embellished and "gallery" wrapped on 2" stretcher bars. Individual pricing is $1500.00. Discounts are available for multiple pieces from the collection. The Midnight Show series is not yet available on-line. Grammy nominated and Emmy Award Winning Guitarist and Composer, Chieli Minucci has just released his latest CD "Travels." The Cover art, by Bettie Grace Miner, depicts a magical dream of Chieli's late father, Ulpio Minucci, a story which is beautifully told by Chieli's composition "Journeys". "Travels" is a heartfelt project for Chieli Minucci. Bettie Miner is honored and proud to be a part of this new musical journey. Travels is on the WatchFire Music label and is also available as a digital download on www.chielimusic.com. Chieli Minucci and Special EFX will be performing at Spaghettini Grill and Jazz Club on Friday October 3, 2008. This is a first for Chieli and Special EFX and will surely sell out, so go check it out.
The L.A. Chillharmonic ~ featuring Richard Smith Richard Smith and a powerhouse of jazz musicians have collaborated forming The L.A. Chillharmonic. A new release of the same name on the Artistry Music Group Label will knock you out! During the photo shoot for this project, listening to the finished tracks while shooting, Bettie and the guys couldn't sit still. Everybody was dancing, laughing and having a great time creating the art. In addition to Richard Smith, L.A. Chillharmonic includes the talents of Michael Paulo, Gregg Karukas, Greg Adams and Brian Bromberg, pictured here. Also joining Richard Smith are Alex Acuna, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jeff Lorber, Eric Marienthal and Patrice Rushen. Check out the entire CD and more photos at artistrymusic.net. You can catch L.A.
