Greetings! It's been a week and as promised, here is part two of the "Miner" news for October 2007. San Jose was a welcoming town and hanging with "Let the Children Play" was inspiring. There will be more news coming about Feed the Children and the Angel art created for this very creative charity. There has been a lot of new art in the works in preparation for art shows this month. I have had so much fun getting it ready for you. So with all this new art and so many opportunities to see you this coming month, I hope to see you at one of shows listed below. I'll see you there ~ until then. Warm regards, ![]() Bettie Grace Miner
"Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival" The First Three Weekends in October ~ Catalina Island, California Art Good knows how to throw a "Smooth Jazz" party! As a long time fan of this monumental festival, I am honored to have been chosen to create the art for this "Two Decades of Jazz" anniversary in the Casino's Avalon Ballroom. It's actually the second time I have had the pleasure of creating artwork for this event. In 2005 you may recall artwork featuring the lovely Mindi Abair sunning herself on the Island's resident Rolls Royce overlooking Avalon Harbor and the historic Casino. I promised to tell you the (back) story of this artwork, so here goes: In this anniversary edition of the poster, you'll find the amazing guitarist, Norman Brown and very hot saxophonist, Candy Dulfer looking out to sea from the Casino. Trumpets turn into Palm Trees to accompany the jam session. Apparently, all that music got the attention of the local mermaids! OK, I have to give this one to Art Good. He had the genius (if not mischevious) idea to pay homage to the incredible mermaid that graces the front of the Casino. I'll bet you'll take a closer look at the Casino this year! Many thanks to Miss Jessy J for being such a sport and being our mermaid. You can "catch" her at the festival all three weekends.
Jazz Impressions is coming to the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival. If you are traveling to Catalina for any of the three weekends of JazzTrax, please visit "Jazz Impressions" by Bettie Grace Miner. Located on the Mezzanine level of the Casino in the Marine Bar you will find a large exhibit of Jazz art. The Marine Bar is right next door to where you'll find the event posters and T-Shirts Canvas "giclee" prints of jazz art featuring your favorite smooth jazz stars and more will be on exhibit. Bettie will be available to autograph your commemorative poster and show you the latest pieces in the "Jazz Impressions" collection. You can also check out the same quality canvas jazz prints that you'll find in the exhibit on new hand made tote bags. Matted fine art prints of jazz art will also be on display. Other new art pieces include hand made jewelry and greeting cards.
Miner Works of Art Studio So, if you've ever wondered how all the art is created, this will give you at least a small idea. For the art show premiering at Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival this weekend, there were 18 giclees and countless matted prints created to show you. A giclee - in case you don't speak French - is a print on canvas (or fine art paper). I also like to embellish the canvas print with texture and acrylic paint as well. Once the prints are done, and embellished - they have to dry. You will see them hanging all over my studio drying before they go to the framer to be stretched and framed. By the time they hang in a show at least four to six weeks worth of work has gone into creating the pieces - and that doesn't include the original creation of the art itself! So now that you're curious - come by and see the art at the Catalina JazzTrax Festival. Don't worry if you're not in the area - more shows are coming up and I hope to see you then!
