Medication Training
Information Released by CCL on RCFE
We met hundreds of people in the last quarter of 2007 at our SMART Medication training programs. The only thing that has changed in regulation is the training requirement for staff in RCFEs. Our training covers all of the areas that all administrators and staff should know if they are assisting clients with the self-administration of medication. If you still need training materials that meet the regulation, see our website or call for our manual or CD and soon an online class. Our materials were developed in consultation with a pharmacist AND a registered nurse.

There has been some confusion about who qualifies as a person who can do "hands-on shadowing" in RCFEs. The new law for RCFE requires that, in addition to either a minimum of 5 hours of continuing or initial education or 3 semester hours, the trainer have:
-Two years of full-time experience, within the last four years, as a consultant with expertise in medication management; or
-Two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, within the last four years, as an administrator or direct care provider for an RCFE, during which time the individual has acted in substantial compliance with applicable regulations; or
-Possession of a license as a medical professional
On December 19, 2007 CCL issued an information release on the RCFE regulation. For more information, click here:
