small a-hole on phone Hello friends,

Summer is going by way too quickly, isn't it?  We have been busily planning for the rest of the year, with two major projects for you.  We should have 20 hours of online training approved before the end of the month for all administrators, and our medication training program - for use on DVD players -  to assist administrators with AB 2609 will be rolled out at a series of meetings throughout southern CA.  Watch your mailbox for further information.

Looking forward to seeing you soon - in person or online.

small a-hole on phoneAre you puzzled by AB 2609 compliance?

We have scheduled four programs around southern California to "Train the Trainer" that meet the requirements of the new law.  Your LPA will be asking for your compliance plans between now and when the law takes effect on January 1, 2008.

In addition to the classroom programs, which will include lunch, we'll also have our DVD training program to be used with direct care staff.  It includes exercises and periodic quizzes throughout, to assure that your staff understands the material, as well as a competency test at the end.

Don't risk being cited for non-compliance with the new law.
                                      Join us for our classroom program, or purchase the training
                                      program online.

Cell Phone Regulations
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AhrnoldWe've had some questions in class about the new law.  Some thought it is now in effect.  We have recommended that administrators revisit cell phone policies for employees, simply for safety reasons.
Arnold Schwarzenegger on the new cell phone law:
"The simple fact is that it is really dangerous when you talk on your cell phone and drive at the same time.  Hand-held cell phones are responsible for 1,000 accidents every month, and we have seen that there are very dangerous situations sometimes....  This bill doesn't mean that you can't talk on a cell phone; it just means that you should not hold a hand-held cell phone, you should use a headset or use a speaker system."
Also, there is an exception here that if you have to make an emergency call, then you can use the hand-held phone.  And also, what is important is that this law will go into effect on July 1 of 2008.  There will be a $20 fine if you're caught the first time using a cell phone, and then $50 after that.
Classes - 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The line up of continuing education classes continues to receive high marks from attendees.  I think we've determined that Contented Cows DO Make Better Milk, and had a great time in the process of finding out.  You'll have to attend the HIV/AIDS and TB class to see a picture of a billboard in Jamaica encouraging safer sex practices.  And one of our students gave another name to our Dealing with Difficult People courses - "when strangling is not an option."  Join us - you'll learn, you'll have fun.

Check out the new locations for ARF and RCFE initial classes, and see the monthly list of Continuing Education classes.  Next up is August 1, 2, 3, 9, 10 at Sunrise Simi Valley.

The manniquins in our office often get lonely.  Do you or staff need first aid or CPR renewal courses?  Or need to take First Aid for the first time?  The manniquins in our office often get lonely.  Let them come to you.  Call us for details.

Thanks to all of you who stopped at our booth at the CALA conference in San Jose in June.  Please plan to see us in Long Beach in November, where you will again be able to have ice cream sundaes.  We're working on our costumes - we like to attract a crowd.

Congratulations to Kathy Naber-Jordan of Premiera Care in Oakdale and Michael Lowenstam of BridgePoint at Beverly Hills, the winners of our Starbucks certificates.  Many of you know that we often give out prizes in class as well.  Learn, have fun, prizes - does it get any better?  Kathy and Michael, thanks for entering.

Check out our website for our new record keeping system.  We have them for RCFE and ARF residents, and a system for Employees.   We'll guarantee that if you follow the system, you will not be cited by Licensing for record keeping issues.  These were created by a long time administrator who has never had a citation.
to learn about record keeping systems.....

We can also help with Disaster Planning guides.   We had many requests from people who took the online course and from several administrators who have recently been required to develop a disaster plan by the regional center that funds their program.  Call us for more information.

And books..... have we got books.  You'll see recommendation for the books we have used in developing the material in our classes.  Follow the links if you are interested in purchasing.
