Step up for Stepping Out! Do you have great leadership and organizational skills? Is event planning your forte? Do you play well with others? Then here's a great opportunity to use your talents and at the same time help provide a life-affirming experience for breast cancer survivors, their families and friends. Join the Stepping Out Executive Committee! You'll be part of a team of four or five volunteers whose role is to help plan and produce Stepping Out To Celebrate Life, Marin's most popular fundraising event. Together you'll oversee an army of volunteers, all dedicated to creating an uplifiting, elegant evening. Planning begins immediately, so why not invite three or four of your buddies to join you in this rewarding work. If you and/or someone you know is interested in joining the SOEC, please contact us and plan to attend our Volunteer Kick Off on January 24th. Being part of the 2009 Stepping Out Executive Committee and working with a team of women I adored was a very special experience for me. Yes, it did require considerable time and effort, but, the creative energy and fun attitude of the team made it all worthwhile. As Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Sue Carlomagno

Faces of the Foundation
This month we celebrate Jeanne Capurro, a dedicated volunteer since 1997, now a member of the Board's Executive Committee. A familiar face to most of us, Jeanne's involvement dates back to the early days, when the organization was called the Marin Breast Cancer Committee. She attended the second Stepping Out To Celebrate Life to support her friend, Elaine McCarthy, who was modeling. "I loved the feeling in the room, and I wanted to be part of it," says Jeanne. She called Elaine and offered to help out but, to her dismay, she was told she didn't qualify because she wasn't a breast cancer survivor. Jeanne encouraged the Committee to change their policy, and the rest is history. She joined the Board in 2000 and has since served in many roles - recording and corresponding secretary, SOEC liaison, and more. In addition, for several years she has graciously taken on the task of Silent Auction committee lead for Stepping Out. Her favorite part of working with To Celebrate Life? "The people I've had the privilege to work with," says Jeanne. "They've enriched my life." When she isn't busy with the Foundation, Jeanne loves to cook, do needlepoint, and spend time with her grandchildren. And one of these days, she muses, she plans to renew her acquaintance with her piano.
