Greetings from Bloomington
It's hard to imagine, but the spring semester is drawing to a close. The class of 2015 is beginning to take shape, and we look forward to welcoming them to campus in August.
As part of our recruiting efforts, we send a series of video magazines to all accepted students. A video about what makes Indiana Law different appears nearby; you can view the remaining videos on our YouTube page.
I appreciate the support that alumni, faculty, students, and friends of the school are giving me during this interim period. I welcome your questions and comments and look forward to seeing you in Bloomington or at one of our upcoming alumni events in your city.
Warm regards,
Hannah L. Buxbaum Interim Dean and John E. Schiller Chair in Legal Ethics

Conkle op-ed on health care debate featured in Politico
On March 27-29, the US Supreme Court conducted a rare three-day series of oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. Prof. Daniel O. Conkle offered his thoughts on this important topic in an op-ed for Politico, the widely read online journal of politics and current events.
Titled "Health Care and Constitutional Armageddon," the piece encourages the Court to defer consideration of the law's individual-mandate provision until after the 2012 elections.
Conkle's op-ed has been cited in many other publications, including The Washington Post and Bloomberg Business News, and provoked lively discussion on the Law School's Facebook page. <<Back |

Maurer students prevail in competitions
On Friday, February 24, a standing-room-only crowd of classmates, family, and faculty gathered in the Moot Court room to hear four second-year students argue before a panel of judges in the final round of the Law School's annual Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition, sponsored by Bose McKinney & Evans LLP.

Moot Court winners Harter (l.) and Silvestri
| After multiple rounds of briefing and oral argument in the fall and spring, the last four students standing were finalists Eric Silvestri, Michael Mattingly, Kyle Fields, and Nate Harter. They emerged from 151 initial competitors, and more than 200 alumni contributed their time as judges.
A distinguished panel of judges presided over the finals: Judges Edward Najam of the Indiana Court of Appeals and Valeri Haughton of Monroe Circuit Court; Ken Falk, Litigation Director of the ACLU-Indiana; Greg Castanias JD'90, of Jones Day in Washington, DC; and Professor Joe Hoffmann. Harter and Silvestri were named champions of this year's competition.
On March 9, two teams from Indiana Law competed in the Williams Institute Moot Court Competition at UCLA Law School, a competition devoted to issues in sexual orientation and gender identity law. One of the teams, consisting of 2Ls Jorden Colalella and Cara Johnson, won an honor for Best Brief.
Maurer School of Law JD students and Kelley MBA students Chad Ranney, Josh Stolarz, Abijah Nyong, Kurt Sutton, and Gaurang Gupta narrowly edged out the competition to win this year's IU Internal Venture Capital Investment Competition, which was held at the Law School on Saturday, February 11. This fourth annual competition was sponsored by the Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic and the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
