According to a 2004 survey, positive CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) information has influenced 72% of respondents to purchase a company's products and services. CSR is the voluntary activities an organization does in regards to the social, economic and environmental factors of its surroundings. While some actions result in a positive public response, certain activities can result in the complete opposite, and lead to a boycott. Keeping up with safety issues, Rohm and Haas has provided a four-year $60,000 grant to The American Institute of Chemical Engineers for the expansion of Safety and Chemical Engineering Education. | Economy Versus Environment |

 Climate Security Act of 2007
In an attempt to help out the recent ozone layer issues, the Climate Security Act is trying to reduce the emissions of Carbon Dioxide by factories and plants. One part of the Climate Security Act will give an allowance to facilities, based on past emissions, which can be sold to other plants if they don't use their quota. However, a study done by the National Association of Manufacturers and the American Coucil for Capital Formation predicts a negative impact on the US economy including:
- Decrease in millions of jobs
- Increase in the price of coal, oil and nautral gas
- Less disposable household income
- Decrease in industry output of primary metals, stone, glass, paper, motor vehicles and coal
