Have you ever noticed what occurs when you are part of any group that is "in sync?" In this enlivening, experiential session we will explore and experience the concept of "entrainment" - best demonstrated by the formation of a flock of birds, or school of fish. We will create a "rhythm community" using group drumming activities and rhythmic games anyone can play. The primal power of drumming in group lifts ones mood, and opens a doorway which spontaneously connects participants, creating a field of mutuality, creativity and collaboration. Mark Suresh Schlanger will take you on a journey into the non-verbal (right-brain) recesses of your psyche. Generally our interactions with cohorts and colleagues in the workplace are based on verbal exchanges. This primarily non-verbal program opens new possibilities of relating - breaking down pre-existing barriers to communication - and creating! Group Drumming has been demonstrated to reduce employee burnout rate, lower stress hormones and even improve immune system functioning. Studies have shown longer term results of improvement in communication and collaboration between coworkers/team members. In this workshop, we will:
ALL INSTRUMENTS PROVIDED. Mark "Suresh" Schlanger, MBA, is Principal of Bottom Line Drumming. He has been drumming for 25 years, and has studied in Cuba, NYC and Washington, DC with renowned leaders in the field. Deeply seasoned in applied drumming, part of his in depth training includes Arthur Hull's Drum Circle Facilitator's Workshop and certification in HealthRhythms - a wellness protocol designed by Barry Bittman, MD and music therapist Christine Stevens. Bottom Line Drumming has facilitated hundreds of drum circles over the past 10 years, in a wide variety of settings - corporate retreats, special events, and community programs - for a diverse range of business and educational organizations such as Mitre Corporation and the Corcoran College of Art & Design among others. Also a long time performer, Suresh has preformed at the Kennedy Center, Dance Africa DC, with pianist Richard Kaplan, and with local Afro-Cuban group Dom Pakka Chica and many others.
