Authentic leaders never suppress leadership in others; they encourage it. Just like the heroes in mythology, they embody, teach and develop the essential skills of vision building, risk-taking, initiative and collaboration to their managers and teams. How do these "leaders of leaders" create a culture of affirmation and support, while also demanding boldness and experimentation? Improvisation is the key! Taking and building initiative requires inspiration and focus. The techniques of improvisational theater, such as trust, fearlessness, rapid ideation, and active engagement, construct a creative, flexible foundation to boldly put innovation into action. In this fun and imaginative session, you will learn:
Using the powerful touchstones of mythological heroes, you will tap into the generative power of improv to develop the collaborative spirit, quick thinking, breadth of vision, and creative wisdom that are the hallmarks of authentic, innovative leadership. You will experience leadership competencies helpful for building alignment and accountability on action plans; running more productive, dynamic, and interactive meetings; introducing and managing change; thinking more creatively and spontaneously; and more effectively engaging clients or staff. Join us for an inspiring experience with practical applications! Jay Rhoderick is President of Bizprov, a New York-based consulting firm specializing in using improvisation to train business professionals. He has taught improvisation to hundreds of managers and executives for 15 years, and he has strengthened teams and developed public speaking, innovation, and collaboration skills at many Fortune 500 companies and leading international firms, including Dow Jones, JPMorgan Chase, and Barclays among others. One of Jay's favorite assignments was coaching US Olympic athletes in improv and media awareness in preparation for the Beijing Games. Notably, Jay taught a graduate-level improvisation master class at the world-renowned Yale School of Drama. He is also a former faculty member of Chicago's world-famous Second City Theatre, and currently teaches at the People's Improv Theatre in New York. In addition. His critically-acclaimed long-time troupe, Centralia, was recently voted Best Long-Form Group for 2010. He has improvised onstage and onscreen with Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Jeremy Piven, Will Arnett, and Kate Walsh. Jay is a widely sought-after director of improvisation shows and teams as well.
