Like Percival's quest for the Grail, humans today
search for challenge, inspiration and meaningful ways
to connect with the world -- not so they can call
their quest complete, but so they can create a
purposeful resonance at home, at work, and in their
communities. This session will use sound, words and
natural objects to help you reconnect with your
empathic nature -- the source of your desire to
effect change. We'll discuss ways to make your
experience relevant to everyday life. Participants will
leave with a creation that represents your own
empathic nature. Bring a journal if you keep one.
About Karen Rugg ~ Karen's work in this
world
is to translate and transmit ideas and emotions into
creativity that calls for action. Through a variety of
channels, experiences and inspirational platforms,
Karen fosters environments that facilitate conflict
resolution, community development and human
transformation. She is a published writer in the fields
of music and aerospace. She is currently a Writer for
the Office of Aeronautics at NASA, and creative
concepts consultant to a number of area businesses
and national nonprofits. She is the soundscape
director for Washington National Cathedral's monthly
Labyrinth walks, for which she plays the folk harp
and recorder. Prior to starting Karlynne
Communications seven years ago, she was director
of communications for the National Space Society
here in Washington, an account executive with a
business-to-business advertising agency, and a
promotions manager for PBS/NPR stations in upstate
New York. She is president of the Arlington Business
Council, past president of Women in Aerospace and
the Washington DC Chapter of Women in
Communications, a member of Washington
Independent Writers and a team leader for Citizen
Emergency Response Teams in Alexandria. She crews
on Tall Ships, sails on the Chesapeake, and rides with
Potomac Pedalers.
