This week at the Crossing... July 4, 2010
|
Dear
Crossing family and friends, Have you ever been the recipient of an insincere apology? I ran across one of my all-time favorites again this week. It's from the Herald-Ledger of Lexington, Kentucky, July 4, 2004:
"It has come to the editor's attention that the Herald-Ledger neglected to cover the civil-rights movement. We regret the omission."
"We forgot to cover the entire civil-rights movement. Sorry about that." Really??? I mean, really?!!! Are you ready to forgive them? Not sure I am :)
We're in a series entitled, Tell Me a Story. It's a study of the stories of Jesus. This week's story is about forgiveness: Who should we forgive? And how many times must we forgive before we can write somebody off?
Come this Sunday for a deep look at the Parable of the Ungrateful Servant. Be forewarned--it may mess you up a bit. But then, isn't that why we show up on Sundays?
See you then! pastor Kendal

Volunteer of the Month
Bill Baysinger
This month we recognize Bill Baysinger. Bill & his wife Stephanie started coming to the Crossing when we held preview services at the dance studio.
Bill was raised with a knowledge of Christ. He believes that God has used his life experiences to deepen and enrich his relationship with Jesus Christ. Bill trusts that God loves him, wants what is best for him, but admits that he is prone to wander and still has a lot to learn (and don't we all!).
He has been an active member at the Crossing, regularly working to set up and tear down, leading Connection Groups, performing and directing dramas for worship, starring as the Jester at last year's Dragon Party, playing the part of a giant bunch of grapes (see the incriminating photo above), and firing up the grill for potlucks.
Nowadays, Bill can often be found in the cafeteria working with KidsCrossing. This should come as no surprise, since he is a high school mathematics teacher at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden.
Along with his brothers, Bill hikes sections of the Appalachian trail. They average about 30 miles a week and hike once a year. He has his heart set on visiting all 50 states, and would especially love to see the Grand Canyon and Pacific Ocean. Bill married the smartest woman he ever met. They became enamored with each other in 7th grade and just celebrated nine years of marriage on June 16! They are trusting God's timing to grow their family, but are happy to have their 'two mutant hairy babies,' Kismet and Destiny (who happen to be cats)!
Thank you so much for your service to the Crossing, Bill! |
"Welcome" Tiffany!

Tiffany Archambault, who for the past couple years has been our KidsCrossing coordinator, is transitioning to become Kendal's part-time assistant.
Tiffany has been a great leader in KidsCrossing, consistently demonstrating positive, can-do attitude and a passion to help the Crossing flourish. We're excited to have you on board in a new way, Tiff!! By the way, Tiffany's on the right...

'What If' Update...As of this week, we're up to $65,000--well on our way to the $100,000 down payment and the next step in God's future for us!
Thanks for your continued generosity and for following God's invitation to trust him. I love our church and I love what God is doing through us together! If you haven't had a chance to participate, there's still time to make your 'What If' commitment. Just indicate on a Connection Card or offering envelope.
If you still haven't checked out 'the land,' click on the map at the bottom of this e-newsletter and go take a walk...

Our 'Winn-Dixie' outreach...
The Crossing is partnering with the New Beginnings homeless shelter and three other local churches to provide a weekly Saturday outreach in the Clermont Winn-Dixie parking lot!
Two weeks ago, over 20 volunteers persevered under the hot sun to register 22 families and to serve 90 hot dogs. When those being served were asked what their biggest need was, the overwhelming response was FOOD!
What we need: non-perishable food items, such as rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, canned goods, etc. Bring to the info table on Sunday or contact Diana Beighley (email below) for pickup during the week. Thanks!
Food for thought: 18 people listed food as an urgent need, 7 listed clothing, 3 listed shelter, 3 listed financial/employment, and 2 listed medical needs as urgent. |
