pastor KendalDear Crossing family and friends,

Quick! Name the Florida State Soil.

What?! You don't know? Well, OK, neither did I. It's called Myakka, and consists of four layers of--guess what--sand!

Why in the world would you even have a 'state soil'? I mean, who cares? Well, here's the thing: in a sense, our soil defines us. There's a reason Idaho is the 'potato state,' Nebraska is the 'husker state' and Florida is the 'citrus state.' It's our soil. Your soil determines what will and will not grow. (Yes, I know it's also climate; but run with me on this one...)

Interestingly, Jesus said that the 'soil' of our heart determines what grows there. He even told a story about it. And this Sunday, we'll take a deeper look. We're calling it Weeds, Rocks, Seeds and Dirt, and you can find it in Mark, chapter four.

So come on Sunday with a friend, a Bible and your favorite soil, and we'll do some digging together.

See you Sunday!

'What If' Update...

We're on a journey into God's future for us.
Specifically, we have our eye on a piece of property (see box below). A few weeks ago, you and I committed over $475,000 during the next three years! So far, just under $60,000 of that has come in, which means we're well on
our way to the $100,000 needed as a down payment for the land!

Thanks for your continued generosity and for following God's invitation to trust him. I love our church and I love what God is doing through us together.

If you haven't had a chance to participate, there's still time to make your 'What If' commitment. Just indicate on a Connection Card or offering envelope :)

What a great adventure we're on...

Our 'Winn-Dixie' outreach...
canned goods
New Beginnings, a local homeless shelter, is launching a weekly Saturday food and clothing distribution outreach in the Clermont Winn-Dixie parking lot and the Crossing hosted for the first time last week!

Over 20 volunteers persevered under the hot sun to register 22 individuals (not including their families) and to serve 90 hot dogs. When those being served were asked what their biggest need was, the overwhelming response was FOOD!

In order to make this a continued success, we need a supply of non-perishable food items, such as rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, canned goods, etc. Bring to the info table on Sunday or contact Diana Beighley (email below) for pickup during the week. Thanks!

Like to join the team?! Email Diana Beighley at dbeighley@nat.com

Food for thought: 18 people listed food as an urgent need, 7 listed clothing, 3 listed shelter, 3 listed financial/employment, and 2 listed medical needs as urgent.

Volunteer of the Month
Bill Baysinger

Bill BaysingerThis month we recognize Bill Baysinger. Bill & Stephanie Baysinger started coming to the Crossing when it held preview services at the dance studio.

Bill was raised with a knowledge of Christ. He believes that God has used his life experiences to deepen and enrich his relationship with Jesus Christ. Bill trusts that God loves him, wants what is best for him, but admits that he is prone to wander and still has a lot to learn (and don't we all!).

He has been an active part of the Crossing, regularly working to set up and tear down, leading Connection Groups, performing and directing dramas for worship, starring as the Jester at last year's Dragon Party, playing the part of a giant bunch of grapes (see the incriminating photo above), and firing up the grill for potlucks.

Nowadays, Bill can often be found in the cafeteria working with KidsCrossing. This should come as no surprise, since he is a high school mathematics teacher at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden.

Along with his brothers, Bill section hikes the Appalachian trail. They average about 30 miles a week and hike once a year. He has his heart set on visiting all 50 states, and would especially love to see the Grand Canyon and Pacific Ocean. Bill married the smartest woman he ever met. They became enamored of each other in 7

th grade and just celebrated 9 years of marriage on June 16th! They are trusting on God's timing to grow their family, but are happy to have their "two mutant hairy babies, Kismet and Destiny" (who happen to be cats).

Thank you so much for your service to the Crossing, Bill!
