BE SAFE! STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES

Power lines down on Parkdale Road in Rainier
Downed power lines are dangerous! If you see one,
stay away and call us immediately at (503) 397-1844.
  • Call (503) 397-1844 immediately to report downed lines.
  • Never touch a downed power line. Always assume the power line is energized and dangerous.
  • Stay at least 50 feet away from any downed line. The ground around a downed line may be energized as well, making it very dangerous.
  • Never touch trees or limbs that are touching power lines.
  • Never drive over a downed power line, or under a line that is sagging over the roadway.
  • Don't touch debris or fallen branches near downed lines. Anything touching the line is as dangerous as the line itself.
  • If a power line falls on your car, stay inside and wait for emergency personnel. Only exit the car if it is on fire or in danger of catching fire. To do so, open the door and without touching the ground, jump away from the car. To avoid electrical shock, do not touch the car and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and shuffle away from the car.

FREE & LOW COST WAYS TO LOWER ENERGY BILLS

  • Turn your thermostat down a few degrees. Set it lower when you are away or asleep.
  • Set your water heater at 120° (140° if your dishwasher has no heating unit).
  • Take shorter showers. Showers can account for 2/3 of water heating costs.
  • Only run your dishwasher when it's full. Use the energy-saver mode.
  • Turn the lights off when you leave a room.
  • Replace burned out light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
  • Caulk or weather-strip around all exterior openings.
  • Keep drapes closed at night to keep heat in.
