Greetings!
Many of you
wrote about your meaningful gratitude-to-water ceremonies in May. It is inspiring
to hear how your relationships with water deepened as you found ways to create
your own honoring of bodies of water near where you live!
*** The ongoing
oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico can be seen as a focal point and teacher for our
consciousness development. Three themes have emerged: the beauty that is
possible in that body of water, the despair that images provoke, and the
mysteries of divine perfection. In this newsletter, I try to address the complementarity
of those themes. As always, I welcome your feedback and look forward to hearing your experiences with shifting your own consciousness!Creation despacho |

The Universe Mirrors Our
Consciousness
"Astrologically, we are
about to get a glimpse into the future possibilities of what can be; for your
personal greatest good, & the greatest good for all people & planet.
Expansive Jupiter joins Uranus in Aries on June 5th; this
conjunction will last until March of 2011. This is a rare spectacular
astrological alignment...These major planetary players will provide us with
tremendous insight, genius, huge breakthroughs, a step up in consciousness, and
an increase in our spiritual acceleration, and psychic/intuitive abilities; for
a new reality is about to be born. Staying grounded, in the middle, and not being moved by anything.
Practice Extreme Self Care daily. Be the calm in the storm. We can practice
conscious awareness. We can choose to be proactive and not reactive." -- astrologer unknown
"Beauty
is counterbalance to worry." --
Quetzacoatl "When a
group of committed individuals comes together beyond ego, then what has
traditionally been called the enlightened mind can emerge between them. Because they meet in the Authentic Self, the difference between the one and the
many disappears, and the enlightened mind becomes the one voice speaking to
itself. In this profoundly awakened context where higher consciousness
has emerged as the intersubjective ground, a truly revolutionary potential
reveals itself. It's a window into a completely new order of human
relationship in which we not only awaken to this higher level of consciousness
together but, even more importantly, begin to engage with it in order to find
out how to create the future." --
Andrew Cohen
When we
watch the unfolding of a disaster like that in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, we
have a myriad of reactions: wanting it to be 'fixed;' not wanting to watch the
slow death of creatures and ecosystems. Wanting to assign blame; not wanting to
look at how our own behaviors might have indirectly contributed. Wanting to
pray; wanting to scream. Wanting to live our lives as usual; wanting to dream a
different dream. The
Larger Picture
For me,
these reactions are mirrored in my "non-ordinary reality" journeys for the
Gulf. In the beginning I saw and felt the oil gushing, and also saw images of a
clear, healthy, vibrant Gulf. In parallel dimensions, I saw light beings
forming tunnels to allow sea creatures to escape; I saw the heaviness of the
spill taken to a black hole to be devoured. I heard "This is what you
collectively have to do: transfigure and transmute and believe. The oil is just
oil; volcanos erupt, particles darken the sky and kill life, this is the way of
the earth." In furthur
journeys this message recurred: "It just is. Creation and destruction are
part of the whole. Stars die and are born. Gulf creatures expire, and enter a
different dimension when this one fails to support them." The spirit of water showed how it
kept moving with the elements-being blown by wind, circulated in response to
the heat of the sun, moving in rhythm with the moon-and experienced oil as
simply another mineral to interact with. From water's point of view, there was
no judgment, no attachment, no drama or crisis. There is no distinction, from
water's point of view, between elemental-created events and human-created events. In other
words, the earth goes on evolving no matter what happens to its creatures,
whether human, turtle, or bird. Spirit was re-minding me of the mystery, and
the larger picture. The divine perfection of the whole may mean that the
ecosystem dies, that humans change consciousness, that humans cause their own
extinction. We do not know. And we can use all these disasters as wake-up
calls, to move beyond our human ideas of destruction, and beyond despair, into
empowered action (as Joanna Macy teaches). We must embrace the whole of reality
before we can dream possibility. We must understand our participation in the
cultural trance before we can lay new tracks and create a different fabric of
reality. My friend
and teacher Sandra Ingerman expresses this in different words: "Death is not
an end, it is a transition. We must learn how to honor life as it is so
precious, and at the same time learn how to let go. Change requires a death and a
letting go to a new way of being. There is always new birth that comes with change and
transition." Metaphor:
The Hag and the Maiden Are One
Image and
metaphor-from dream, vision, meditation, journey-are ways to open our awareness
to all that is. Coming from our wild, free, and non-linear brains, they open
the door to the rhythms of light and shadow. I often
consult with my helping spirits when my mind is stuck. Hag and Maiden, familiar
characters from my spirit world, came forth to open the doors. You know
the Hag: wrinkled, old, cackling, and sometimes scary. She reflects what we do
not want to see in the mirror-our own wrinkles, our own meanness. In the
western cultural framework, Maiden is Hag's opposite: young, beautiful, pure,
and gentle. Yet these two were aspects of a single goddess in neolithic and
pre-Greek cultures, and still are seen that way in Hindu cosmology: Maiden and
Hag are one. Together, they can re-mind us of what we can see if we really look
in the mirror: our wholeness. I asked to
be shown how to write about the Gulf from the perspective of shifting
consciousness. Hag said to me: "You
humans will go extinct like everything. In the universe of 100,000 galaxies,
you are very small. This is hard for you, as we all want to be important and
special. "The
energy [commitment, political work, shining heart, good vibrations] you give to
this universe is important, but it's not about saving yourself or whales or
polar bears. It's about honoring the whole of life. Consciousness is seeing the
bigger picture. Though some catastrophic events are human-made [global warming,
Gulf oil spill] and some nature-caused [volcanic eruptions, meteors smashing
into earth and causing dinosaur extinction], the end results are the same: all
beings evolve. The choice you have is how you evolve. "You are
observers and can't 'fix' the physical oil spewing into the Gulf. You can 'fix'
[shift] your perception! You can
shine your light. You can
reflect the divine. You can
dream clear clean waters teeming with life. You can
vision a healthy ecosystem. You can
ask forgiveness and give love. You can
hold the balance in the world." The
Universe Mirrors Our Consciousness
Each month I
ask the same questions. What energy are we filling our minds, our hearts, our
voices, and our cells with? What are we teaching each other, our children, and our
grandchildren by our actions? How do we choose to nurture our hearts, feed our
souls, and be resonant and conscious caretakers of the world we want to birth? We know in
our hearts what science is now learning: the universe mirrors our consciousness. Holding the
center, the place of balance, we can become anchors for those around us. Holding
the vision, we can become seers (see-ers) for the rest of the world. Letting go
of the outcome, we can open to all possibility. Carrying the heart of the world
in our hearts, we can shine all the vitality, beauty, and wholeness our world
contains. May you feel the radiance of the sun in every cell!

Offering for the Star Beings Ch'aska, or
star despachos, are offered in times like these, when a great number of people
are affected by major environmental events. Join us on Ring Mountain (Marin County) June 13 to make this offering "to bring star energy down to earth to
assist us in the difficult times that are coming." As we make these star
despacho offerings, we are creating subtle energy links between our own
meridians, earth's seqe (ley) lines, and the star beings. June 13
is a day of unity, purpose, and balance in the Mayan calendar.
