Cause Marketing Today Helping You Reap Financial and Social Dividends
October 2007

Greetings!

Between the mortgage mess, fear of terrorism and the weak dollar, business optimism is in the pits, but that does not presage cutbacks in cause-related activity, according to a recent executive survey by Grant Thornton.

Surveying the field, Cone Inc. sees a spectrum of approaches companies take to support causes: 1) Cause Promotion Marketing: short-term, transactional, consumer focused; 2) Cause Branding : long-term, integrated, multistakeholder; 3) Socially Aligned Business Initiatives : impacting operations, transforming companies

Whatever your level of Cause Evolution, we at CMF cherish the opportunity to help you create great value for us all.

  • Hallmark Goes RED

Calling it the largest social impact initiative in the company's history, Hallmark recently announced a partnership with (RED). The Kansas City greeting card marketer will contribute 8% of net wholesale sales of selected products to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa.

Sales of (PRODUCT) RED branded products have raised $45 million since the program's inception in March 2006. Other RED partners in the US include GAP, Armani, Converse, Motorola, Apple and MTV Networks.

    YouTube Offers Nonprofits Special Channel

YouTube recently leveraged the Clinton Global Initiative to announce that it is offering nonprofits free new tools to raise funds and awareness.

Benefits of the YouTube Nonprofit Program include:

    • a nonprofit channel with increased branding and uploading capacity
    • the ability to embed a Google Checkout button in their YouTube space to promote contributions
Google, which owns YouTube, is waiving all Google Checkout processing fees for registered nonprofits through the end of 2008.
