BEHAVIOUR MATTERS/CONNECTED PARENTING
AND THE GIFTED CHILD:

Not all gifted children are the same. They are all unique individuals, but there can be some similarities among them, and some specific strategies that can be helpful to parents of gifted children. Gifted children can be such a delight to parents-their level of understanding, sense of humour, and curiosity can bring us great joy, but like any child they can also be very challenging to parent. With high intelligence often comes increased awareness, sensitivity and excellent negotiating skills.

We are excited to announce our new group SMART MOVES for Gifted/Very Bright Children.

This will be an 8 week program/90 minute sessions.

The SMART MOVES GROUP will help the gifted child develop positive social skills, build self-esteem and resilience, learn strategies to deal with their uncomfortable feelings eg. anger and anxiety and help them regulate their emotions. Children are taught to stand up for themselves in positive ways, encouraged to advocate for themselves and to reach out to others in order to build and sustain friendships.

Children will develop new skills in a discussion and activity based program which includes role-playing, expressive art activities and cooperative games.

This group is a learning environment where the children learn to better understand emotions by exploring cognitive behavioural strategies for calming down, and perceiving other's more accurately.

Children are grouped according to age and grade.
