This article from education.com addresses the special needs child as both the bully and the 'bullied".

Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation helps reduce tension in your body and in your mind and help you feel less anxious . When you are anxious your body tenses up like a robot but when you are relaxed you are more floppy like a doll. Let's do some relaxation exercises so you can learn to relax your bodies.

Muscle Tension Relaxation

In this type of exercise we are going to learn to tense and relax different muscle groups.  To do this, you tense a muscle, pause, count to yourself, "1-2-3" and then relax the muscle.  Start with your toes, work your way up towards your head and back down again. As you go through the exercise, you will notice a relaxing feeling of warmth moving across your muscles.

Deep Breathing

Deep Breathing helps the oxygen flow to your brain and all the muscles in your body. It also helps you to focus and to concentrate better.  Breathe in through your nose, pause and count to yourself, "1-2-3", then slowly exhale through your mouth.

Imagine yourself in a very peaceful, relaxing place or doing something really fun.  Use all five of your  senses and imagine what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel.

Our Let's Be Friends group is continuing to promote social skills for preschool children with puppet play being used to introduce each new skill. The children love making their Friendship poster at the end of each session.

Our Cool Tools groups are planning some great cooperative cooking activities in our kitchen, reinforcing what they learn in session. Our children are excited to build snow forts in our large backyard always keeping in mind the promotion of skills to help the kids have successful and positive interactions.

The Teen Talk group continues to enjoy their "Connect Four" tournaments, while discussing issues pertinent to them. Our STAR PLAN helps our teens learn techniques to recognize their uncomfortable feelings and implement strategies to help them problem solve in a more positive way.
