Margie Deane Gray,

Executive Director, FLC Foundation

Hello everyone,

I hope this monthly e-newsletter finds you enjoying a wonderful summer. Summer in Durango has been a hot one this year. However, with the afternoon rains the campus cools down and makes summer livable, especially in comparison to most of the rest of the country. Who could not enjoy summer in Durango with the fun spirit that pervades this special place? I can't think of anywhere else to be in any season.

Speaking of a special place, in August, Fort Lewis College and Durango will host the upcoming USA Pro Cycling Challenge, the largest and most significant international bicycle race in the United States. Only the Tour de France is considered more prestigious.

Fort Lewis College has been chosen to be the Grand Depart, or the start of the race. The seven-day race is 683 miles long with the route going through the Rockies at elevations that most of the racers have never had to endure. The race will end in Denver.

The campus is getting ready to host and house over 500 professional cyclists, their entourages and race officials from all over the world. The campus will be transformed into a "cycling village," similar to the Olympic Village concept. Needless to say the campus is buzzing with activity getting ready for the 20,000 visitors expected to descend the region for this exciting race. Media from all over the world will be here to cover the race. What an amazing opportunity to highlight Durango and the College for people around the world.

The hope is that the race will put Fort Lewis College on the global map where it deserves to be. Join us for this phenomenal event and be part of the world watching Fort Lewis College.

Warmly,

Margie
