In 1994 Lorna Stanley set up Operation Restoration Christian School in Trench Town to bring hope to children and young people from one of Jamaica's most deprived and violent areas.
Its aims were to tackle the illiteracy and hopelessness of young people and to empower them to take hold of their future potential.
The school's achievements are plain to see. Many of the more than 1200 pupils who were unable to read and write before they enrolled now attend some of Jamaica's most prestigious high schools.
Miss Lorna was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey regarding her work, and is well respected in Jamaica for her efforts, but her strength and inspiration come from God.
This Sunday 13th November Micah looks forward to welcoming Miss Lorna back to speak about the school's successes, as well as some of the challenges it faces. You can get a hint of these from the video below:

This is a great opportunity to invite your friends and family to hear about her work, and to be inspired by what God is doing.
Christmas Ghanaian style
Of the many Christmas parties and dinners you're invited to this year the Ashanti Akim Community Organisation (AACO) Annual Christmas Banquet is one that's not to be missed!
The event is being held in association with Micah Community Projects and Heartbeat Community Projects, and promises to be a night of fun and laughter and live entertainment ... not to mention a three-course meal. All for only £20!
The evening will also be an opportunity to celebrate the work of AACO in Ghana's Ashanti Akim region. Founded by Pastor Akusua Arkhurst in 1989, the charity works to alleviate poverty in five key areas: agriculture, education, business, medicine and leadership development.
Micah has partnered with this work in prayer, finances and development trips. Come along and praise God for what He is doing!
All proceeds go to the work of AACO charity. To find out more check out their website.
