After last summer, it seemed like this time would never come. But here it is! It makes me more aware of all the blessings in life, including the miraculous growth we see in children.

NEW! Dynamic Intelligence Program

There is some exciting news from the Connection Center that I would like to share with you! Last week, I spent five intense days discussing the new Dynamic Intelligence Program with Dr. Gutstein and a group of experienced RDI consultants in Houston. This program will soon be available to those of you who are ready to take RDI to the next level.

It is well known that people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) can learn and apply information in predictable situations, such as classrooms. However, we now know that they have trouble learning from their own experience and acting on that knowledge when faced with the unexpected, a skill that we call dynamic intelligence. Like the original RDI Family Consultation Program, this new program is grounded in the latest research and inspired by Gutstein's creative genius, but it is directed more specifically at building dynamic intelligence. It will bring the power to create a more meaningful and effective life to people both with and without neurodevelopmental disorders. However, the benefit this new program brings to people with ASD promises to be profound.

The time for this resource is now! You may develop a solid guiding relationship and yet still be eager to transfer more independence in problem-solving and motivation for personal growth to your child. Your child may be a wonderful apprentice, but still not feel competent beyond the home, where you are not available. Many parents are eager to have more influence on their child's potential for success in work, independent living, and intimate relationships. This program was designed to work directly on transferring these independent thinking skills. It will be appropriate for use by parents, teachers in the classroom, and adults who are working to develop their own dynamic intelligence. Dr. Gutstein has spent the past three years on this project and it looks like it is going to be another invaluable gifts to the world!

The D.I. Program is still being field-tested and fine-tuned. I'll keep you informed of the progress of this exciting new resource for our community!
