Water Conservation Tip
Caring for Your Lawn

Many homeowners do not realize they overwater their lawns.  In Santa Clarita, more than two-thirds of a home's water is typically used outdoors.  Reducing lawn irrigation is the ideal way to save water and have a healthy lawn.  To read lawn care tips, click here.

CLWA's 7th Grade Presentation

Did you know CLWA offers free educational programs to K-12 students?

In the seventh grade (shown above), students learn about 10 waterborne illnesses through an interactive
role-playing game in which they act as sick patients visiting the doctor with various symptoms of waterborne illnesses. The class attempts to diagnose the patient, and patient win (temporarily) a plushie of the waterborne illnesses.

To register for one of these classroom presentations or field trips, have your child's teacher email Casey Gordon at cgordon@clwa.org

Solar Power at CLWA

Castaic Lake Water Agency and SunPower Corporation are building a five-acre photovoltaic solar energy power plant to supply power to the Rio Vista Water Treatment Plant. Construction will begin around July 1, 2011 and be completed in November 2011.

The solar plant will provide energy price security to CLWA for water treatment operations and demonstrates CLWA's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and other air pollution emissions. The project is partially funded by the California Solar Initiative and will help utilities meet renewable energy generation requirements under state law.
