Welcome to Water Currents

February 2011 Edition

Greetings!

The Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) not only delivers reliable, quality water to the Santa Clarita Valley, but also Water Currents, our monthly e-newsletter, direct to you!

In our new monthly e-newsletter, we will bring you information about water issues, upcoming events, conservation programs and tips from our staff of experts at CLWA.

We have some exciting upcoming classes in February, including our FREE SCV Friendly Gardening Class: Shrubs and Natives on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 9AM to 12 noon.

Water Conservation Tip

To retain moisture in the soil, reduce runoff from irrigation, and add nutrients back into the soil, mulch your plant beds with bark mulch (available at your neighborhood plant nursery).

Large Landscape Program

Would you like to help your homeowners' association reduce its landscaping water use?

Kriss Keogh administers CLWA's Large Landscape Program for homeowners' associations (HOA's), parks and landscape maintenance districts.  This Program is FREE to use and includes a water check-up of the irrigation system and landscaping, as well as identifying potential rebates for water saving measures.

To see if your HOA is eligible to participate in this FREE Program, call Kriss Keogh at 661.510.1238.

Lowering Your Water Bill

Did you know that up to 70% of your water is used outdoors?

Keeping your lawn green can use a lot of water, but most of us also overwater our lawns, giving them as much as 50% more water than it needs!  You can sign up for our Residential Landscape Class and recieve a free weather-based irrigation controller (WBIC), which can considerably reduce your outdoor water use.  This, in turn, will lower your water bill.

To register for our Residential Landscape Class and recieve a FREE WBIC, call Rene Emeterio at 877.242.2262.
