Spotlight on Monique Gaudet

Monique

What is your role at EastPoint?
I've been coming to EP for about a year and a half now, and I joined the worship team about three months ago. I've also been attending YAC and Starting Point. It's been busy!

Why do you serve?
I serve on the worship team because I love praising the Lord and I love leading other people into His presence.  I'm not the strongest voice up there, but I have a heart for worship, and I try to make it show.

Where do you and your family live?
Last year I bought myself an adorable little house in Portland, and I live there in a household of eight girls: me, my kitten Megan, and six chickens.

Where are you originally from?
I'm originally from Falmouth, and my parents still live there along with my youngest brother.

What is your educational background?
I went to University of Hartford in CT, where I majored in Communications with a minor in Advertising.

What is your career background?
For the last 11 years I've worked in Marketing, and I'd love to put
my degree to work again!  I'm currently looking for a position in a small to mid size company in the Portland area where I can be involved with Marketing operations.  I'm definitely a creative, results oriented person, and I thrive in a small business team atmosphere where I get to function in multiple roles. I'm excited to find a company that fits my skill set, so I can start taking on a new challenge!

What are your hobbies?
Sounds boring, but I love reading and sewing. And are Facebook and Twitter considered hobbies?

What is your favorite Scripture?
About five years ago, I had some major life decisions to make and I felt like I had no idea where I was going.
I was seeking the Lord, but not really coming up with a whole lot. One verse really struck a chord with me, though I wasn't sure why...

Jeremiah 6:16

"This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls."

Well, of course I want to walk in God's will. Really, what Christian doesn't?  But how to do that in a practical way?  How do I ask for the ancient paths?  I really didn't "get" the verse, but it stuck with me.  Weeks later during worship, I heard a still small voice clearly say "Just keep turning to Me."  Practical advice for a practical girl. God met me where I was. And Jeremiah 6:16 has been my life verse ever since.

Discovering Jesus

Series:

This weekend:

"Mission"

  by Scott Taube

   Luke 9:1-6

1 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,

2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

3 He told them: "Take nothing for the journey-no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.

4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.

5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."

6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.

Help a Neighbor in Need

"Back to School" time is a great time to show Christ's love to our community.  Luckily, you don't even have to look for an opportunity!  The families we assist at the Root Cellar are in need and you can help by donating school supplies.

Pasted at the end of this e-mail is a list of recommended supplies for the Portland School District.  If you could, pick up some extra items when you are shopping for your kids or just passing by them in Wal-Mart or Rite-Aid.

There will be  a collection box in the EP foyer from Saturday, August 6th through the 21st.

We will deliver the items on Monday, August 22nd.  In addition to distributing the supplies, we will have lunch with the moms and kids in the community that day and also provide back to school haircuts for the kids.

(We have a couple of hairdressers lined up but would love a couple more. )

The Root Cellar,  located in Portland, is an interdenominational Christian mission with a goal of uniting churches in the common cause of satisfying the physical and spiritual needs of inner-city youth and their families.

Couponing for Those in Need

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, Matthew 14:13

When the disciples were worried that they did not have enough bread and fish to feed the masses, Jesus supplied their need by multiplying five loaves of bread and two fish. To be Christians is to strive to be Christ-like and what better way than multiplying what we have to give to others. Couponing for Those in Need, will be a program which "extreme couponing" tactics will be used to collect items for the those who need it most: homeless, women and children and military overseas. Your job is easy! Pull out the coupon section of your newspaper to bring to church and just drop them in the allotted "coupon box." These coupons will be matched with the best deals in the area to multiply our giving potential. Coupons that are expired will be sent in batches overseas to the troops where they can be used up to six months after expiration date and supply thousands in savings.
