Our Current Sermon Series
 According to Luke
Series: Discovering Jesus
This weekend: "Jesus; Touching the Humble, Forgiving the Sinful" by Scott Taube
Luke 5:12-26
(New International Version, ©2011)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[a] When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." 13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. 20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, "Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, "Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." So he said to the paralyzed man, "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, "We have seen remarkable things today."
Footnotes:Luke 5:12 The Greek word traditionally translated leprosy was used for various diseases affecting the skin.

Our goal is to have a core group of attendees - can you help?

Sign up to serve!

We are still about 50 volunteers short of our goal which would allow for all three celebration services to function with ease. If you have yet to make a commitment to serve at EP, there is still room to help with Children's Ministry, serving in First Impressions or as a Service Attendant. Respond using a SERVE brochure on Sunday or by following this link.

What is your role at EastPoint? Our role at Eastpoint is teaching the 4th & 5th graders. We have been volunteering in children ministry for the past 5 ½ years. First with nursery, then E-Kids, and now 4th and 5th graders.
Why do you serve? Rick- I believe I am led by God to serve. I truly enjoy it and my wife thinks I have a gift connecting with the children. Kelli- I feel God has called Rick and I to work with children and teens in all aspects of our life. I love the connection that I make with the children and feel blessed.
Where do you and your family live? Rick, Emma, Hannah and I are residing in South Portland. Katie, Joe, and Jayden reside in Waterboro; Richard is stationed in Missouri (his wife Courtney and daughter Neleh are in Standish);Kyle is currently deployed and his wife Katie is stationed in North Carolina; Nate is stationed in Virginia with our daughter Rebecca and their children Dakota, Maddie, Sydney, and Ava; and Nik is about to be in Orono attending college and Brett will be heading to bootcamp in June.
Where are you originally from?
Rick is a true blooded Mainer (Gorham) and I am a true blooded Texan (Austin). What is your educational background?
Rick graduated from Gorham High School and has many trainings and certificates; I have my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. What is your career background?
Rick and I are both juvenile probation officers. Rick covers the town of Biddeford and I cover all the southern york county towns. What are your hobbies?
Rick and I love to spend time with our children and grandchildren, we LOVE to travel, and we love being in water whether it is our pool, the lake or the ocean. What is your favorite Scripture?
My favorite scripture is Psalm 121, Margaret Shaw was like a grandmother to me but more importantly she played a major role in my salvation. They read Psalm 121 at her funeral just 1 week after I was saved and it has been my favorite verse since. Psalm 121 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip- he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.Rick's favorite verses is John 3:16 but there are many different scriptures he enjoys. John 3:16 (Rick's favorite) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
