Our Current Sermon Series

As you probably know, we have been studying the life of Jesus, according to the gospel of Luke.  We will be taking a break for a couple of weeks to discuss some important service needs and the obstacles that prevent us from serving as Christ-followers.

Growth Opportunities

Join us each Thursday at 7pm at EP for the Young Adults and Campus Ministry Cafe.  We will enjoy some java, mingling and music in a relaxed, cafe-style atmosphere before coming together as a group.  The video series we will be viewing is called Nooma.

After the video, we will discuss the message. We hope you can join us!

One, Two, THREE Celebration Services at EastPoint!

Saturday Night Services
Begin April 30th
@ 5:30pm

Since opening the doors at our new Portland location, the Lord has blessed us with an average attendance of over 500 people! This growth is rapidly exceeding the capacity of our new facility. In order to make room for more people who are hungry for the Gospel, we will launch a Saturday Evening Service on April 30th, 2011 at 5:30 PM.

Each time we add another Celebration Service we need more volunteers to serve within the ministries of the church - especially those ministries that meet needs during our times of worship. During the month of February we are asking everyone to consider volunteering within the Church by filling out a Volunteer Survey Card. (You will also find a link to the survey online which may be more convenient for most of you.) This will help us staff all of the needed positions. In addition, in the month of March we will ask for 150 people to commit to attended and assist with the launch of the new Saturday Night Service. We are asking for a commitment of at least 6 months to assure a successful launch.

Jesus says, "to whom much is given, much is expected". We realize that there will be some hurdles and growing pains as we respond to God's opening of hearts in the Greater Portland Area. Please pray that our sermon series, Clearing the Hurdles: Overcoming the Obstacles to Serve, will help to us connect with a Jesus-centered inspiration and motivation. These are exciting times at EastPoint, and it is with joy that we rise to the challenge of loving and serving each other as we follow Jesus.

Are You Ready?

As you may already know, we began surveying the Body of Christ at EastPoint to find out where our members who are not currently volunteering might be interested in serving.

We have distributed a ministry brochure highlighting areas we need help with and, for your convenience, we have created an electronic version of the survey.

Connect Cafe

will be held this Sunday, February 20th following second service (12:30PM.) The Connect Café event is a relaxed environment where you can meet new people and find out more about EastPoint Christian Church. We will start out with music and a lite lunch, then move into a time when you can meet our staff and learn more about our church. Please use a connect card or e-mail Alana to sign up.

Spotlight on Shawn McCurry

What is your role at EastPoint?

I started like many of our volunteers do by going from a visitor, to member and by seeing a need I started volunteering. I served as a member of the tech team for over 2 years and now I am currently serving as a missions committee leader, E-Kids teacher, and member of the accounting team for EastPoint. I am also a candidate for Eldership.

Why do you serve?

I serve because I feel called to. My wife and I were geograpically seperated due to family illness and my working at the Pentagon in Washington DC and a combat tour in Baghdad, Iraq. I returned wanting to not only establish roots but again be part of something that is greater than one's self. I felt God leading me to not only help at EastPoint but to go on several missions trips to Peru. I wanted to take the many blessings we have been given and to share those blessings with others. God has filled our hearts with joy at what has been accomplished.

Where do you and your family live?

Brenda and I live in Steep Falls, ME. We are blessed to have Brenda's parents living with us so that we get to share our lives together.

Where are you originally from?

I was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was a nice place to be raised. Corpus Christi was a "small" big city at the time with about 250,000 people if I remember it right.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology and much of the work done towards an MBA.

What is your career background?

I have just recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years in the US Army. The Army has been great for me. I have to say that each time I have needed to come back to Maine due to family medical issues, Brenda and I have been able to get assigned here albeit the last time had a year long diversion to Iraq first.

What are your hobbies?

I love to fish...more like warm weather fishing! Though I did some fly fishing in November. You will not likely see me sitting on the lake ice fishing.

What is your favorite Scripture?

My favorites would be John 3:16, 17

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him."

The verse speaks to the sacrifice made on our behalf and the hope that we can look forward to. My second one I had to memorize from being in the Corps of Cadets and it was on a war memorial at Texas A&M for those who had given their lives in the service to this country which is John 15:13,

"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
