New Ministry for Jared, Rachel & Caroline Cowgur

A Bittersweet Goodbye

EastPoint Christian Church began gathering for Celebration Services in March of 2004. In the 7 years since, God has truly done incredible things! Rachel and I feel humbled and blessed to have joined in God's work here for the last 4 years. Now, God is calling us to the same work of church planting that brought EP to the Greater Portland Area. In March, we will be transitioning to a one-year Church Planting Residency at Manchester Christian Church to prepare for the work that God has in store for us.

EastPoint has truly become our family. We deeply love the people of this church. It is difficult to express our gratitude to you for the love, encouragement, and support that you have given during this transition. The leadership and staff have been graciously supportive of this new direction for us. We believe that our strong relationship and partnership with EP will continue into the church planting ministry. Please pray for us as we step out in faith.

Love, Jared, Rachel & Caroline

Our Current Sermon Series

As you probably know, we have been studying the life of Jesus, according to the gospel of Luke.  We will be taking a break for a couple of weeks to discuss some important service needs and the obstacles that prevent us from serving as Christ-followers.

Clearing the Hurdles
... Overcoming the Obstacles to Serve

This weekend:
LifeGroups Pastor, Larry Strondak

Hurdle # 3 - Fear of Commitment

II Corinthians 8-9

"Empower Me"

by Merri Lewis

Empower me, Oh holy God
To run the race, the one you called
To forget the past, made wiser from sin
To run to the finish line
Where life begins

Empower me while running the race
To go full force ahead and to rest in your grace
To keep my eyes
focused, always on the goal
To win the greatest prize
One more precious than gold.

Empower me to train and gain
All the wisdom for running the race
To jump all the hurdles
And run at your pace
To strive and strain every day
To live and think, and learn and love
To wholeheartedly serve you
Oh Holy God!
And win the prize you've set above!

Empower me, Oh Holy God!

One, Two, THREE Celebration Services at EastPoint!

Saturday Night Services
Begin April 30th
@ 5:30pm

Since opening the doors at our new Portland location, the Lord has blessed us with an average attendance of over 500 people! This growth is rapidly exceeding the capacity of our new facility. In order to make room for more people who are hungry for the Gospel, we will launch a Saturday Evening Service on April 30th, 2011 at 5:30 PM.

Each time we add another Celebration Service we need more volunteers to serve within the ministries of the church - especially those ministries that meet needs during our times of worship. During the month of February we are asking everyone to consider volunteering within the Church by filling out a Volunteer Survey Card. (You will also find a link to the survey online which may be more convenient for most of you.) This will help us staff all of the needed positions. In addition, in the month of March we will ask for 150 people to commit to attended and assist with the launch of the new Saturday Night Service. We are asking for a commitment of at least 6 months to assure a successful launch.

Jesus says, "to whom much is given, much is expected". We realize that there will be some hurdles and growing pains as we respond to God's opening of hearts in the Greater Portland Area. Please pray that our sermon series, Clearing the Hurdles: Overcoming the Obstacles to Serve, will help to us connect with a Jesus-centered inspiration and motivation. These are exciting times at EastPoint, and it is with joy that we rise to the challenge of loving and serving each other as we follow Jesus.

Are You Ready?

As you may already know, we began surveying the Body of Christ at EastPoint to find out where our members who are not currently volunteering might be interested in serving.

We have distributed a ministry brochure highlighting areas we need help with and, for your convenience, we have created an electronic version of the survey.

Connect Cafe

will be held on Sunday, February 20th following second service (12:30PM.) The Connect Café event is a relaxed environment where you can meet new people and find out more about EastPoint Christian Church. We will start out with music and a lite lunch, then move into a time when you can meet our staff and learn more about our church. Please use a connect card or e-mail Alana to sign up.

Be My Valentine

Preschool, E-kids and 4th &5th graders created beautiful Valentine cards as part of Forget-Me-Nots, a project lead by a local Christian radio station. These cards will be distributed to area nursing homes and to shut-in residents receiving meals on wheels. What a great opportunity for our EP children to share the love of Jesus.

(E-kids, second service)

Spotlight on Bruce Audie

What is your role at EastPoint?

I am a devoted follower of Jesus who has found a home at EastPoint. I strive to be an encourager. I enjoy volunteering for photo/video projects, missions, and wherever there is a need. I post the sermon audio messages to the EastPoint web site.

Why do you serve?

I serve because I have been served, and because Jesus calls us all to serve.

Where do you and your family live?

My wife Karen and I live in Saco, in the same house where my kids were born and raised.

Where are you originally from?

I grew up in Old Orchard Beach and lived there until I got married.

What is your educational background?

I did my Associate's studies in accounting and have my bachelor's degree from USM in Business Administration.

What is your career background?

I have been a police officer in Biddeford for 34 years - since I was 20 years old. I am currently deputy chief. I got into it until something better comes along - and I think 'something' is getting closer.

What are your hobbies?

Woodworking (I built our house), photo / videography, RV road trips.

What is your favorite Scripture?

1 John 3:16-18 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."
Help EP Feed the Hungry
Our food pantry is open on Fridays from 11-1 to church members, their family and their friends.  If you need assistance, please come by! You may also pick up for someone you know if you feel they may be more comfortable having food delivered to them.

We are in need of staple items for our food pantry at EP as we have already had families take advantage of it. Please help us stock the pantry so that we don't have to turn anyone away. You may bring your donation to EP during office hours or leave it in the donation box in the foyer on Sunday morning.

Help by donating:
-soups -canned beans -tuna & hamburger helper -pasta
meals -coffee (small cans) -cereal -pancake mix -syrup -peanut butter & jelly -spaghetti & sauce -red beans & rice -spaghetti-o's -mac & cheese -ravioli -canned meats and any other "meal" items

Cash donations are also always appreciated. Be sure to note "food pantry" in the memo line. Also, if you are in need, use a connect card during service or e-mail Alana to let us know.

Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered to help run the pantry. We are now fully staffed for the time being!
