Greetings!

"If ever the Time should come, when vain & aspiring Men shall possess the highest Seats in Government, our Country will stand in Need of its experienced Patriots to prevent its Ruin." -Samuel Adams, letter to James Warren,

 October 24, 1780

It is an honor to know that so many of America's "experienced Patriots" will be reading the messages of this newsletter.

In the 10 weeks since Glenn Beck asked me to tell his TV audience my story about the 912 Super Seniors, thousands of you have contacted our site with questions, concerns and interest in joining together to do something. That "something" is evolving in several directions and will continue to develop as the volunteers here work with Seniors all over our country.

The three goals of 912 Super Seniors, to educate, empower and act are being accomplished through the national website and the creation of local groups.

We educate ourselves and others by reading and sharing the news articles posted on the homepage. We empower Seniors every time we post or read experiences, insight and information in the Seniors Chat and by participating in the COLA Project tracking food inflation. We act by sharing the website with our email list of friends and family, starting local Super Seniors groups, writing our elected representatives and alerting our family and friends.

We have barely begun but that beginning is everything. It is a reflection of the experienced Patriot's resolve to defend our freedoms, promote our prosperity and, as Samuel Adams wrote, to prevent our country's ruin.

We Super Seniors begin the year 2011 with heightened resolve and determination to preserve for our heirs this country we love. The remnants of past mistakes and current non stop assaults on our constitution do not deter us.

No one of us can take on all the problems, but each one of us can do something. No one can know all the answers, but each of us knows some of them.

Seniors are not afraid to ask questions and we recognize nonsense when we hear it. If it sounds too good to be true, we know it will never work. We know there is no pie in the sky, no free ride and no gain without careful planning and sacrifice.

And so we resolve to step out of our own comfort zones, to speak up in our communities and organize with others. We resolve to be an example to our children and grandchildren of what Samuel Adams wrote about in the formative years of our nation, the experienced Patriots. For if not we Seniors, then who?

Senior Chat
What are you seeing in the news today?

Senior ChatGo to the "Senior Chat" page at www.912SuperSeniors.org to join the conversations. In response to your requests you can post a new topic or reply to one of the topics posted there. Conversations range from food storage to keeping our politicians in line.

One Senior, Rose, has posted her own " Citizen's Mandate" under the topic "Keeping their feet to the fire".  Rose has done a detailed  job of laying out her ideal agenda for our new Congress. You may agree and want to forward the agenda to your own representatives.

If you are just beginning to do food storage, KatNip has posted a link to Small Space Storage Solutions under the topic "Yes You Can."

Project COLA Update
First Comparative Report

Your data from the week ended 12-21-2010 provided us with our first comparative periods. View the results at

http://www.912superseniors.org/cola-project/cola-project-results/

COLA ProjectThe next report as of 12-28-2010 will be posted soon. Thank you for all of your help.

Please continue tracking the shelf prices rather than the sales prices. And if you cannot get 4 lb sugar at your store just continue recording the price of the 5 lb consistently.

Gasoline prices at 12-22 averaged $2.93 and it will be interesting to see if there is significant increase this week since many of you are commenting on seeing steep increases at your local stations.

America is flat broke and that's not all
by NewSeniors Editorial, December 26, 2010

Most people know our country is going through difficult economic times, virtually on all fronts. The worst may be yet to come. Our debt is unsustainable. The government can't stop spending our money. The recovery is looking more and more like a jobless one. Inflation, home values and investments are unpredictable. And, the world financial markets are warning us that America is headed for trouble. Is there a solution?

The president's deficit panel is proposing saving $3.8 trillion by 2020. This is about half the projected growth of the national debt. Rather than a real savings, the plan only slows the growth of our soaring debt. Besides eliminating middle-class tax breaks, reducing spending for Medicare and Social Security are major elements of the plan. This is not comforting to working people and the growing 65+ population.

Like many Seniors I enjoyed the busy excitement of a family Christmas.  Hearing the chatter of a little nephew describing his school pageant and the glow of eagerness on his face reminded me of how impressionable are our children.

They are so eager to soak up the knowledge and experiences offered to them.  Who is teaching and  influencng the children you love? Do you know their curriciulum, their agenda? Have you made the time to find out?

We have precious little time to impart the values and principles we believe will strengthen our children's characters and enrich our grandchildren's  lives. Those formative years are brief but intense and there is no do-over.

All children look for examples and guidance. They must find direction to enable them to make sense of a big world.  It is certain that someone will provide that direction. There is no more crucial a question than, "Who will it be?"

It is an honor to join with you in this endeavor.
