Greetings!

What an interesting coincidence. Today we are posting to

www.912SuperSeniors.org  the results of the first 30 days of the COLA project: Groceries.

Hundreds of Super Seniors, at the request of Glenn Beck, have been tracking food inflation by price checking at your grocery stores. We've now posted your reported prices as the base for future month's comparison.

Coincidentally, today came the news that the new tax bill which gives no income tax cuts but does prevent massive tax increases, includes nothing less than billions for continued ethanol credits.

What? Already 40% of our corn crop is used for this green dream and is not available for the 4,000 grocery items containing corn products. The result is higher and soon even higher food prices.

Let's see. We used much of our corn crop for ethanol and got markedly higher food prices. So now this administration will again use billions of our dollars to further subsidize ethanol production and thereby further raise our food cost. If our government keeps doing the same thing yet expects a different result, it is implementing a recognized definition of insanity.

Why are our politicians doing insane things to the price of our food? Why promote a technology so expensive and inefficient as to be criticized by no less than our "Guru of Green" the incredibly wealthy Al Gore.

And why would I accuse Al Gore of being wealthy? It is relevant here that Al Gore's wealth and our dearth of corn for food production are not unrelated. In Nov., 2010, Mr. Gore commented about first generation ethanol having a poor energy conversion ratio and so was not a good idea. He also ruminated that his striving for the Presidency probably drove him to "help" the farmers in Tennessee and Iowa by promoting corn to ethanol subsidies.

Estimates of Mr. Gore's wealth at the time of his Presidential run are 1 million, but by 2007 and after his hawking of some inconvenient truths, his wealth was estimated at 100 million. And some critics think Gore is on his way to being the first carbon billionaire.

So is it possible that once again the best interest of Americans runs a far distant second to political manipulations aimed at conjoined goals of massive wealth and certain power?

Seen Any Immaturity In DC?

Our politicians' need for constant supervision as noted in last week's newsletter, is echoed in Dec. 17th American Thinker's "The Adolescent Left".

"As tempting as it is to view the machinations of the left in masterfully calculated Dr. Evil terms, today's progressive is better-understood as a ranting teenager, burdened with both a disordered view of freedom and typical adolescent entitlement issues. It's not that today's lefty is unintelligent; in fact, many are very bright. It's that he is emotionally underdeveloped."

"By disordered freedom, I mean the 1960s-influenced, "don't tell me what to do/I'll do whatever the hell I want to do" kind of freedom.

Pope John Paul II summarized the flaw in such a stunted and animalistic view of our potential when he  explained that

"[freedom is not a matter of doing what we like, but rather of having the right to do what we ought."  http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/12/the_adolescent_left.html

Project COLA: Survey Results
Food Inflation Survey

Cola ProjectThanks to all of you who have been price checking and entering data for weeks to assist with food inflation tracking.

The initial results are posted at  www.912SuperSeniors.org

Look for comparative periods and regional information to be available in early January.

It is not too late to joint the survey by going to the website and clicking on the COLA Project page. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Senior Chat

Come on in and view the conversations or post a new topic on the website's Senior Chat page.

KatNip has posted about Financing Food Storage along with notice of a good buy on King Arthur brand flour.

Pete from Florida offers to help you use the free software "Last Pass" to save those easily forgotten passwords and usernames.

The Fred has started a new conversation thread inviting us to share the free software we have found useful and worthwhile.

Find a Group

If you had problems registering for the Find a Group page to post your city within your state, please try again! The designer made some changes to simplify the registration process so you can use your own password very quickly.

After you register ( which is just one registration that you use for Senior Chat and for Find a Group) just click on your state and then click on "Add a topic" to put in your city for others to see. Super Seniors in your area can then click on the state and the city in order to comment and contact you directly.

Anyone can view the Find a Group posts but to post a new topic or a comment you must use your registered password and username to log in.

Libraries of Hope

We were recently contacted about "The Freedom Series" an amazing collection of books from www.LibrariesofHope.org

Libraries of HopeAfter reviewing one of the books, we can recommend that you consider them as an addition to your library for reading to children or as a gift. The stories included are interesting and inspiring...with examples of the courage, patriotism and ingenuity of Americans.

Visit their site and click on Forgotten Classics and then click on Freedom Series Titles for descriptions of these hardcover volumes of pre-1923 literature which has been beautifully republished for families.

In our opinion the books are also a wonderful value at $15.00 plus $2.50 ( $17.50 each) in shipping for 12 volumes over 12 months. They are ordered directly from. The Libraries of Hope website.

What could be more welcome for us Seniors than to celebrate our holidays with cherished family and friends. We have done the decorations and the food and the gifts for so many years we know just what everyone enjoys.

We are busily creating memories that last as long as the heart can remember. Our families watch, help and learn from us and our traditions will go on but slightly changed through generations we can only imagine.

As you nurture those you so love, think also about nurturing yourself. If we make ourselves and our own needs and desires a visible part of the holiday we teach a valuable lesson in balance.

Self sacrifice is something most Seniors do extremely well. We are not always adept at balancing the doing for others, who can mostly do for themselves, with taking care of ourselves.

So, consider a gift with benefits for all...try something new this year and make yourself an important priority in your holiday plans.

Merry Christmas to all from the volunteers at 912 Super Seniors.

It is an honor to join with you in this endeavor.
