Greetings!

Glenn Beck requested help from the 912 Super Seniors and you answered with a strong "Yes I Can!"

This week Glenn reached out to two groups, As A Mom and 912 Super Seniors, to survey prices for a real world look at food inflation.

On Monday Glenn showed the government's "adjusted" jobs numbers and also their report that we are right on track for 1.3% food inflation for 2010.

A trip to the grocery store today leaves us thinking that 1.3% food inflation is for one month, not the whole year.

After Glenn asked Seniors to track prices through our website, 700 Seniors signed up to help. Quickly 100 of you submitted your data for the first week. At tonight's count 1200 Seniors are gathering price data and 160 initial surveys are in already!

As soon as we have the first week to week comparison we will send it out in our newsletter. We expect to track by the week and also by the month. Please sign up at the web site to help gather data.

Does your own experience agree with the Consumer Price Index that food inflation is minimal? As they say, I'm not a betting person, but...".

Project COLA: Groceries
Food Inflation Report

The first week's data will be as of Tuesday evening and will give us a baseline of average prices, by state and nationwide, on the 13 very basic items on the survey's grocery list which you can download from the website.

We kept the number of items low so the survey could be done each week. If you miss a week, come back when you can.

COLA ProjectWe do not need the store name or the date you shopped. The date will be as of the date you submit the prices. The link to the survey page is at the bottom of the shopping list. If you have trouble with the link just go to www.912SuperSeniors.org and to the Project COLA page for the same link printed there. Just double click on that link to go to the survey page. Again, here is the survey input link: http://912SuperSeniors.org/colasurvey

Remember, when you are pricing items on your list, be sure to price the same name brand and same size of the product each week. Use the same generic item and same size also.

Connect with a New Email Address

We suggest that those wishing to found a Super Seniors group should protect their email privacy by opening a new acccount at a free email provider such as gmail or yahoo.

Anyone who wants to post their email as part of a comment on the website is well advised to create a new email account for that purpose also.

If you are founding a group, please email us your new email address and your first name, city, state and zip code so we can post it on the website and in the next newsletter..

You can also post it as a comment, as others are doing, at the end of the "912 Super Seniors Coming to You" article on the Home Page of the site.

Our web designer will have an addition to the website in a few days. This will allow you to look by city and state for other Super Seniors and connect with each other directly.

New SeniorsBy the end of 2010, all 30 million pre-boomers will be 65 or older. This forgotten generation, born between 1930 and 1945, stands ready to welcome the first of the 76 million baby boomers as they start turning 65 in 2011, at the rate of one every ten seconds.

As a result, "New Seniors" will be the fastest growing segment of the US population for the next 20 years.

Don Potter, a retired ad agency executive, recognized the need for those 65+ to be informed about issues of specific interest to them and provide a vehicle where the New Seniors community can connect with each other. Along with a group of his peers, Potter launched NewSeniors.com in January of this year.

The content of this online magazine includes information, opinions, entertainment, nostalgia, inspiration and more.

If you saw me in the last few minutes of the Nov 18 Glenn Beck show, sitting beside me was Lori Parker the founder of AsAMom.org. For Moms of all ages www.asamom.org has useful information including articles about food storage and food preparedness.

As Glenn Beck continues to urge Seniors to "stop retiring...your country needs you"  thousands of Seniors are getting to know 912 Super Seniors. We volunteers are learning from your emails and comments as we  work to enable local Super Senior groups and expand the web site.

America's challenges are daunting, but one by one we are finding each other and finding our voice.

It is an honor to join with you in this endeavor!
