Dear ,
Congratulations to you and to all of America's Seniors.
Voters over 65 years of age made up 23% of the voters in the Nov. 2 election. You voted in great numbers and made your voices heard.
And a thank you to America's Seniors would appropriately come from the Republicans. Exit polls show Seniors split 58% to 40% in favor of the GOP.
Compare that to the 2006 election where the 65 and over vote was split 49% Republican to 49% Democrat.
Also, a week later a "Happy Election Day" is still being celebrated by all Americans who are concerned about the changes in our country since the 2008 election. For example, citizens who spoke out clearly against the healthcare reform, passed before even most lawmakers could read the bill, are now hopeful it can be de-funded until it can be repealed. They expect newly empowered Congressmen to propose more reasoned, incremental changes to healthcare in order to cut costs while preserving the incentive for innovation and excellence. Looking at the strong turnout of over age 65 voters compared to the other age groups, it becomes clear that Seniors see the need for change of a different kind. Some media pundits focus on Seniors' dislike of the healthcare reform and paint that as the only issue driving the Senior vote.
A closer analysis reveals that Seniors are highly motivated as well by the desire for less government control, lower taxes, and a pro business agenda to bring growth back into our private sector and restore job opportunities for Americans.
Because of the outstanding level of Senior support in this election, we see the label "Old White Folks Party" being used as a negative attack on the Republican brand. Well, there are far worse things than having old white folks agree with your values and principles.
These somehow undesirable old folks, of all colors, are strongly in favor of restoring America's history for our children, preserving our exceptional healthcare, rebuilding our economy and safeguarding America's freedoms.
Thank you, old folks, one and all.

New 912 Super Seniors Groups
The redesigned web site has additional information intended to assist with the whole process of initiating new groups. The website at www.912SuperSeniors.org has a page "Form a Group" with a drop down menu of specific topics important to getting started: "Find other Seniors" reminds us that like minded friends and neighbors sharing concerns and information are already the core of a Super Seniors group.
"Identify Leaders" points out the challenge and the excitement of helping to found a new group and suggests a separate email for group communications. Also stressed is the importance of establishing a leaders group to share responsibilities and access different skills.
"Meeting Content" reminds us that each group will develop its own interests and priorities. The goals of "Educate, Empower and Act" along with the 9 principles and 12 values of the 912 Project are touchstones in the planning of meeting content.
The newsletters and website will always provide content appropriate to the meetings and can serve as a starting point.
"Run a Meeting" provides a basic agenda format which can be modified as the group wishes. Seniors have belonged to clubs and organizations all of our lives and can remember and adapt those formats which worked best to involve members and enable concrete results.
"Feedback and Photos" suggests record keeping and organized goal tracking for each group. Groups can share their successes and challenges with other groups by emailing us their stories and their photos.
We welcome your additions to these topics. Just email them to us at 912superseniors@gmail.com

Education Initiave
As we plan the facets of the education initiative we are listening to the emails of Seniors with experience in education, homeschooling and curriculum design.
You can add to our planning by emailing us your suggestions for improving the education of America's children. Please tell us what concerns you about the education of children in our schools today. What do you like and what do you see that is troubling?
Also, we welcome hearing about what you have done with your children and grandchildren to supplement their education in subject matter such as American history, science, math, and literature.
Over and around all of our teaching of children is the transmittal of the values and responsibilities we often saw modeled for us in our childhood.
Do you make specific efforts to impart those values to children? Can you share with us your stories of what has worked for you and what you have seen work for others?
We are combining information from you with work being done by similar 912 groups and our own research.
The goal is to offer resources, examples and assistance.

Tea Party Protesting the Right Way
by Ronald S. Knopf Sr.
Findlay, OH
I am not a tea party member, but I am a conservative.
I understand their cause and concern and commend them for their undertaking. This does not make me a racist, an uncaring person, or a selfish person.
I submit they are doing what citizens should be doing in protesting about increased taxes, the national debt, unrestrained borrowing, and placing not just our children but grandchildren under a tremendous yoke in the future.
The Principle of Subsidiary states that "matters ought to be handled by the smallest, lowest or least centralized competent authority." A higher level of government should not do for a lower level what a lower level can do for itself; government should not do for the individual what the individual can do for himself.
John W. Bricker, former Ohio attorney general, governor, United States senator, and vice presidential candidate, said in his inaugural address as governor, Jan. 9, 1939: "The individual citizen must again be conscious of his responsibility to his government and to the preservation of his rights as a citizen under it. This cannot be done by taking government further away, but by keeping it at home."
Grover Cleveland, in his veto message of the Texas Seed Bill, Feb. 16, 1887, stated: "Federal aid encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character, while it prevents the indulgence among our people of that kindly sentiment and conduct which strengthens the bonds of a common brotherhood."
I submit that today's conservatism, rather that our all-too-apparent drift toward socialism, will make a difference.
The Principle of Subsidiary, Gov. Bricker and President Cleveland's thoughts were right. The tried and true thoughts of the past are still relevant for today.
It's time we return to the tried and true values of the years since 1776 that made us the country we are. |

Web Sites by our own 912 Super Seniors
Senior's Inspiring Music
Paul Val's Patriotic Statement in Song
We are privileged to have as one of the first 912 Super Seniors a dedicated patriot, Paul Val. His original song, "The Silent Majority is Silent No More" is featured on the right panel of our website. Paul has long been an active advocate in opposing what he calls, " the assault on our traditional values and freedoms". On Paul's web site he asserts that the attempts at removing God and Christian values from our public life is a danger to our very way of life. He believes this is especially true because so many people are unaware or in denial of this concerted effort alllowing it to go unchallenged.
Visit Paul's site at www.valmusic.com
In future newsletters we will highlight other websites from 912 Super Seniors. We are grateful when you share your websites with us. We do not claim to review or endorse every aspect of each website, but pass them on to you for your consideration. |

Have you noticed the "Each One Find One" on our website? We Super Seniors can strengthen the impact of all S eniors by reaching out to those who do not have internet access. In our meetings and in discussions with friends, we can be sure to provide printed information and articles of particular import to Seniors. We can also reach out and find one when we spread the word of the web site and print an extra copy of the newsletter for a friend or neighbor. As our numbers increase, so will the strength of our voice.
It is an honor to join with you on this endeavor. Barbara Samuells Co Founder 912 Super Seniors |
