February 4, 2012 "Liberty and Justice for All"
Personhood Ohio
Greetings!

We are thrilled with what God is doing through the Ohio Personhood Amendment petition drive. The Johnston home was packed this past weekend with almost two dozen Christians for worship and for stuffing envelopes - 7,500 envelopes were stuffed with letters to pro-life Ohioans and to Ohio churches, urging them to help us with the Personhood Amendment. We sincerely thank all who came to help us make history.

Doubtless, we are in a historic time. Ohio can lead the nation in giving "liberty and justice for all." Ohio can be the first state since 1973 to protect every preborn child statewide. Come help us make history!

Jesus said that He would judge nations based upon how we treat "the least of these" (Matt. 25). Ohio has an opportunity this year to amend the Ohio Constitution to protect every preborn Ohioan through love and through law. If we gather 385,000 valid signatures by July 4th, we can put the Personhood Amendment on the ballot on Election Day 2012 and end abortion in Ohio with a simple majority vote. Why have we had forty years of child-killing in Ohio and never voted on it?

What can you do to help?

Please, pray, pray pray. Jesus said that if we ask anything according to His will, we will have what we ask - and we know that it is not the will of our Father in heaven that one of these little ones should perish (I John 5:14-15; Matt. 18:14).

Pray that "Health Families Ohio", the pro-abortion group that has sued us in the Ohio Supreme Court, will fail to perpetuate the slaughter of babies in Ohio.

Please, print out the petition and help us gather signatures! This is a non-partisan, issues-oriented petition, and thus, perfectly legal for churches to distribute.

Please, send us a donation to send letters to every church in your city or county.

Please, help us make phone calls to churches and pro-life groups. If we can follow up those letters with phone calls, you'll find several churches who will let you gather signatures in their foyer Sunday morning.

Visit our endorsements page to read the endorsements from Rep. Jarrod Martin, Pastor Dave DiYanni from Reynoldsburg, Pastor Bill Dunfee from Warsaw, and Pastor Aaron Bounds from Zanesville - and others.

Contact us with your own endorsement, and to receive our Email updates. Forward this letter far and wide.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

What About Abortion "To Save the Life of the Mother"?

Pro-abortion groups have argued that we must have legal abortion because a mother may need it to save her life. Is there any truth to that? Should we make "an exception" for the life of the mother?

Most so-called "therapeutic abortions" are prescribed by doctors not to protect women, but to protect the physician from being sued. For example, I had a pregnant patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer, but the physician refused to prescribe the life-saving chemotherapy until she got an abortion. Was the abortion necessary to save her life? Not at all - the chemotherapy would have cured her just the same. The physician recommended the abortion for fear that he would be sued if she were to deliver a baby who was handicapped from his life-saving therapy. Killing the baby did not increase the likelihood of her survival. Of course, the baby may have been harmed or even killed by the chemotherapy, but that would have been accidental and unintentional, and therefore not criminal.

In footnote 54 of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court judged the exception for abortions "for life of the mother"in Texas law to be dehumanizing to the preborn child. If the fetus is a person with rights under the 14th Amendment, they argued, should we allow them to be killed without due process, even to save the mother's life? The High Court reasoned well on this point, and pointed out the double standard of Texas anti-abortion law. Could a mother intentionally kill a toddler to improve her health or save her life if, for example, she had severe postpartum depression and was suicidal because of the baby? Of course not. Well, why not? Because the toddler's a person, and God's Word says "Do no murder" and our founding documents say that the government may not deprive someone of life or liberty without due process.

The preborn baby is also a person, with a beating heart and measurable brain waves, and intentionally killing the preborn child is not justified even to save the mother's life. If, in the physician's treatment of the mother, the baby is killed, no crime has been committed as long as the physician did not intend to harm the baby and wasn't negligent in his care of his patients. Even "wanted" babies, whose deaths could result in "double homicide" convictions in court, die sometimes in the physician's attempt to save the mother's life, even though no harm was intended. This is unfortunate, but not criminal.

The American Assn. of Pro-Life Ob/Gyns has a position paper on this subject that is enlightening, and you can read it here.

In this article, they also addressed the notion of ectopic pregnancy. Given that abortion advocacy groups have proposed the ridiculous notion that our Personhood Amendment would criminalize treatment for ectopic pregnancies, this article is a good evaluation of the subject.

Lastly, the position of the Assn. of Pro-Life Physicians on this "abortion exception" is addressed here

As Our Case Enters the Ohio Supreme Court, Now is the Time to pray

If you were threatened with execution and your defense was arguing your case before the Ohio Supreme Court to try to have you spared, how would you pray? Do you realize that tens of thousands of little babies lives are on the line in the suit against us in the Ohio Supreme Court? Will you love your neighbor as yourself, and pray for them as you would want others to pray for you?

Do you realize that "Healthy Families Ohio" sued not only Personhood Ohio and each of our board members, but also the Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Secretary of State John Husted? We honestly feel honored to be so singled out by the abortion industry. They fear the Ohio Personhood Amendment! The A.G. and S.O.S. will be standing beside us defending our right to move this Amendment forward.

This is the time to pray every day for "Healthy Families Ohio" to fail and Personhood Ohio to succeed before the Ohio Supreme Court. Let our pray be Ps. 18:17-18: "He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay."

And Psalm 35:10: "All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?"

Trust in the Lord with us for victory. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" With over 500 million taxpayer dollars annually, Planned Parenthood and "Healthy Families Ohio" are giants in the eyes of men, and we as grasshoppers in their sight. However, "There is no restraint to the Lord to save by many or by few." Believe God with me in prayer, that all their efforts to oppose the Ohio Personhood Amendment and perpetuate the slaughter of little babies in the womb will come to nothing. I pray confusion and infighting into the camps of baby-killers, as in I Samuel 13 and 14.

As Psalm 119 says: "It is time for you to work, O Lord, for they have made void Thy law."

HELPFUL POINTERS: Be there two hours before the concert begins. Bring several clipboards, as you may find voters from several different counties. Ask them, "Will you sign my pro-life petition?" If they say "Yes," ask them what county they are from, and give them a pen and clipboard with signatures from people from that county.

Have petitions with the "instruction page" from the website printed and stapled to the top. Offer these to people leaving the concert: "Will you help us gather signatures to end abortion in Ohio?" You'll be surprised at how many people will take one.

It's not difficult to get a booth at smaller concerts. Just ask ahead of time. Have clipboards at the table and at the exits.

Kids are great signature-gatherers! Make it the price of admission to concert, and offer $5 to the one who gets the most signatures!
