CHC 2010 - Year in Review

As we head to the end of 2010, we want to take a moment to thank each one of you for your continued support.  We are only able to achieve our goals because of the guidance, support and involvement of our membership.  In 2011, we will be working with a new Governor in Sacramento and a much different Congress in Washington DC.  Your sustained involvement will be critical to achieving success on the issues you have asked us to focus on.

Our 2010 efforts included a successful Lobby Day trip to Sacramento where we held meetings in the Governor's Office, President Pro Tem of the Senate's Office and the Speaker's Office.  Additionally, our trip to Washington DC included meetings with Senator Feinstein, Secretary Donovan, Deputy Assistant Secretary Galante and numerous additional Congressional Offices.

While keeping a permanent source of funding for affordable housing at the top of our advocacy list, we also spent time focused on other key state and federal issues including regulatory reform, extension of Prop 1C deadlines, QAP revisions, tax extender legislation, the National Housing Trust Fund and Transforming Rental Assistance legislation.  Many of these efforts will continue in 2011 and we look forward to  to representing your concerns in Sacramento and Washington DC in 2011.

We look forward to your involvement in our upcoming 2011 events including our Sacramento Lobby Days trip in March and the Annual Policy Forum & Housing Hall of Fame Awards in May.

Final Letter on Tax Extenders

Click here to view the copy of the letter sent to the full House and the Senate on November 16, urging Congress to act ASAP to extend the expiring tax incentives.  Along with the California Housing Consortium, almost 1300 organizations added their name to the letter.  Thank you to those involved for your support.
New Center for Housing Policy Study: "Building California's Future"

chpThe study found that study finding that, on average, a newly built home selling for the median price in the state of California produced an estimated $375,699 in new economic activity in fiscal year 2009-2010.  This economic activity is enough to support the creation of 2.1 jobs per new home built, the study found.  The findings overall, indicated that California's economy benefits substantially when a new home is built even with the economic downturn and declining home values.

The full study is available for viewing here.
