2011 Atom Boys Basketball Championship in Niagara Recap
The Niagara Sport Commission (NSC) would like to thank Ontario Basketball, Brock University and Niagara College for playing host to this year's 2011 Atom Boys Basketball Championships that ran from April 1-3. The NSC would also like to thank the convenors, minor officials, game officials, coaches, families, and advertisers that dedicated their time to this event; without them, it could not have been such a success. All weekend long every team played with intensity and passion, and it was a pleasure for the NSC to have experienced the dedication that these athletes have to becoming better basketball players.

The event saw 52 teams, 700 athletes and 1,500 spectators stay in the Niagara Region throughout the tournament, and local businesses are estimated to have received approximately $450,000 in economic benefits from the tournament.
The NSC would like to thank everyone involved, and cannot wait to host the U17 Juvenile Boys Basketball Championships that will run May 27-29. This event will see approximately 65 teams visit the Niagara Peninsula. The NSC is excited to have the opportunity to work with its hosts and Ontario Basketball again in May, and further into the future as well.

| Niagara Falls allocates funding to sport tourism |
The City of Niagara Falls has voted in favour of a new sport tourism policy that will allocate funding to attract out-of-town tournaments to city facilities. A budget of $20,000 has been allocated to this initiative and will be distributed to tournament organizers whose out-of-town participants stay overnight at local hotels.
Hosting tournaments boosts the economy, as the influx of tourists increases spending at local businesses. Accordingly, larger events with higher economic stimulation will receive more funding than a smaller event. This new initiative will serve as further incentive for organizations to bring more tournaments to the Niagara region. The policy will come into effect May 1, 2011.
