Niagara Welcomes the World this Labour Day at Henley Island
| Rowing crews from all over the world will be
descending on Henley Island for the 2010 FISA World Rowing Masters Regatta from September 2nd-5th. For one of these crews, the trip will bring back many
memories. Minoru Okuda and his crew from Keio Boat Club and Meiji Boat Club in
Japan first raced at Henley Island in the First North American Rowing
Championships Canadian Centennial Regatta which was held in 1967. Many of the
members were only in their 20s at that time, but it's still a vivid memory and
they couldn't miss the opportunity to race at Henley Island again this year. Everyone is encouraged to make their way down to
Henley Island to watch some of these exciting races. Admission to the events are
free however there is $5 parking fee per vehicle. If you would like to be part of this great event, please click on the link below to access the volunteer database. |

TeddyBear Tournament a Huge Success
| The Niagara
Girls Softball Association hosted their annual TeddyBear Tournament July 9th,
10th, and 11th, inviting everyone to the Falls for a
weekend of fun and friendly competition.
Over 50 teams responded to the call, setting the stage for fierce
competition featuring some of the best of girl's baseball in southern
Ontario. At the end of the tournament, each
team went home having played at least 3 more games, and a new
set of friends. Congratulations to all of the winners, and also to the Niagara Girls Minor Softball Association
for putting on such a successful event. The Niagara Sport
Commission staff had the opportunity to enjoy the event volunteering at the BBQ fundraiser and

Legends on the Niagara Golf Tip
| | Keep it Routine
How do you know when you're
ready to swing? Simple, it's all a matter of routine. Next time you are at a
practice facility try to hit a large bucket of balls while following a "pre
shot routine" with every swing.
Stand behind the ball and
pick a target in the distance, be specific. Next, approach the ball with the
same amount of strides every time while keeping your focus on the target (put a
wood cover on the ground to mark a starting point).
Now, set the club behind
the ball and settle into your setup position and adjust your posture and grip.
Look at the target again and check your alignment, one last look at the target
and swing.
Use this basic pre-shot routine for every club you practice with
until all the balls are done. It's hard to put the same effort into every swing
but if its consistency you're looking for then you need to develop discipline,
especially through your practice routine.
Remember, it's only a routine until
it becomes second nature.
