Join us for another Movie in the Park.  Friday's movie will be The Blind Side. All movies are free and begin at dusk. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are all welcome. We will have kid's activities and a bouncy house before the movie, so come early and enjoy some park time with your family.  This is our final movie in the summer's series. Thanks to Walmart and Sam's Club for sponsoring our Movies in the Park.  Their community participation enables us to provide quality, cost-free family entertainment.

NOTICE OF LANE REDUCTION and STREET CLOSURE

Hickman Road from 68th Street to 60th Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction with a center left turn lane; and the 62nd Street and 61st Street intersections will be CLOSED at Hickman Road to all traffic. These lane reductions and intersection closures will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. The lanes on Hickman Road and intersections with 62nd and 61st Street will reopen when construction is completed on or about October 7, 2011.

 

These lane reductions and intersection closures are necessary for the Hickman Road and 63rd Street pavement widening project in Windsor Heights.

 

Motorists are urged to use extra caution when driving in this area and obey all construction zone signing, or select an alternate route.

 

NOTICE OF LANE REDUCTION

Hickman Road from 60th to 63rd street will be reduced to one lane in each direction daily during the hours of 9a.m. to 4p.m. starting Monday August 1, 2011 through Friday August 5, 2011. The lane reduction will also result in the temporary closure of the North portion of the intersection at 61st street and Hickman road also between the hours of 9:a.m. to 4p.m. daily for the same time period. The permanent closure of the South intersection at 61st street and Hickman Road reopening on or about October 7, 2011.

 

This lane reduction is necessary to accommodate a water main tap and installation of new water main related to the Hickman Road and 63rd Street pavement widening project in Windsor Heights and Des Moines.

Send your Child to Money Camp
There is one spot available in next week's ( August 1 - 5), summer money camp, My Own New Biz, geared for students ages 8 - 12.  Participants learn the fundamentals of starting their own business by creating, selling, and marketing their products.

If you are interested in having your child attend, a commitment must be made to attend all five sessions, M - F, 9 am - 3 pm.  Call 515-771-5255 to make a reservation.
  

 

Music in the Park.  Music in the park continues this Tuesday with Hold On.  All bands start at 7:00 p.m.

National Night Out

In addition to the Music in the Park at 7:00 p.m. on August 2, the Windsor Heights Police Association will host the National Night Out against crime and violence at Colby Park from 6-8 p.m., with outstanding activities including:

·     Meet-and-greet of the Windsor Heights Police force

·        National Guard Blackhawk helicopter landing/display (weather permitting) being flown by guard member and Windsor Heights Firefighter Jason Cutsforth

·     Ice cream social (while supplies last)

·     Display of police vehicles, bike patrol, speed trailer

·     Temporary police tattoos, activities and games for children including a bounce house and jewelry making

·     Balloons, stickers, police cards, coloring books, other free giveaways

·     Windsor Heights Neighborhood Watch tent

·     Home security representatives, family/drug awareness resources

National Night Out is designed to:  1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;  2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs such as the Neighborhood Watch;  3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and  4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Sponsored by the Windsor Heights Police Association, WH Chamber of Commerce, Hy-Vee, Bankers Trust, and Windsor Heights Neighborhood Watch.

 

Care Package for Windsor Heights Officer Serving in Afghanistan:  Windsor Heights Police Officer, Hector Arias is currently serving in the Iowa Air National Guard. He is stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan and this is his seventh deployment.   We will be collecting items at National Night Out, August 2nd and then sending them to Hector and his unit.   Please click here for more information and a list of items being collected.
