Movie in the Park: Please join us Friday night at Colby Park for Casablanca.  This classic movie is a great date night event.  As always, don't forget your lawn chair and please enjoy the free popcorn.  As always, watch our website for updates as the weather may not cooperate.
National Night Out:  The Windsor Heights Police Association is holding its annual National Night Out celebration at the newly opened Windsor Heights Community Center in Colby Park (6900 School Street) on Tuesday, August 3rd from 6-8pm. The public is encouraged to come meet the members of the Police Department and get a hands-on feel for some of their equipment. Attendees will also be able to learn about crime prevention programs and meet with several metro area family resources that will be on hand. This year's night out against crime and violence will also offer a free ice cream social, children's games and activities, a bicycle rodeo, free massages and scoliosis screenings, and a chance to Dunk-A-Cop in the dunk tank "shooting range". McGruff - the Crime Fighting Dog will also make a special guest appearance. The Police Association will have several prize giveaways, including passes to the Science Center and Living History Farms, and grand prizes of a new boys and girls bicycle.
 
National Night Out is expected to be a fun-filled opportunity to meet with the Windsor Heights Police Department, strengthen community ties, and deter crime.
 
Specific services offered and sponsors:
 
· Matt Cale State Farm Insurance is hosting the bicycle rodeo - children are encouraged to bring their bikes to participate.

· Balance Chiropractic will sponsor massages, scoliosis screening, and backpack safety checks.
 
· WHPD child passenger safety seat technicians will be on hand to inspect and install car seats.
 
· Aging Resources, Employee and Family Resources (EFR), and Youth Emergency Shelter Services (YESS) will also be on-site for consultation.
 
· Other area sponsors include the Windsor Heights Chamber of Commerce, Hy-Vee, Wal-Mart, Target, Bankers Trust, Krueger's Towing, Blank Park Zoo, and A to Z Rental.
· This event will also be partnering with the Windsor Heights Foundation's Music in the Park series featuring the Des Moines Community Jazz Band at the performance pavilion from 7-8pm.


The Windsor Heights City Council meeting Scheduled for Monday, August 2nd has been cancelled.  The next council meeting will be on Monday, August 16th at 6:00 pm

This meeting will again be a Takin it to the Streets meeting, held on the dead end on 64th Street, just north of Lincoln Ave. Please note that in the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held in Council Chambers.

Compost It! Bags: New Design, Same Capacity: You may soon notice that the Compost It! bags at the store look a bit different than they did previously. The difference is in the design. The new Compost It! bags are shorter and wider, making them easier to fill and use with other yard equipment such as bagger mowers and rakes.
