November, 2011
We Need Your Votes! CSTR has been chosen to participate in the November Pepsi Refresh contest.  If we finish in the top 15, we will win a grant for $25,000 that will be put toward the completion of a Senior Dog Retirement Home.  If we're going to win, though, we need daily votes, so we need your help daily through November 30!

Here's what you do -

1. Text 109564 to Pepsi (73774) to vote from your mobile phone.
2. Visit our Pepsi Refresh Voting Page  and vote from ALL of your email addresses!

Please spread the word.  We need every vote possible!  And remember to vote early, vote often and vote daily!  Thank you!
President's Message
October was one of the more difficult months for CSTR as we said goodbye to two of our Refuge participants.  We lost Winston, who defied all odds in his battle against renal failure and lived months longer than ever expected, and Pressley, who had recently been diagnosed with intestinal cancer.  Our sincerest condolences to their foster parents.  The CSTR board feels very strongly committed to the rescue of senior and special needs dogs who would otherwise have no chance at life once they wind up in animal sheltering facilities, and our Refuge program was set up specifically for them.  To see more about the Refuge program, please visit the CSTR website.

Melanie
Melanie
CSTR also saw the addition of four new dogs to the CSTR program.  The Illinois program added two girls from Chicago Animal Control that we named Lauren and Halle.  In Tallahassee, we first brought in a 5 year old girl from a Georgia shelter.  Melanie is heartworm positive, unfortunately, and so will be  beginning heartworm treatment in the coming weeks.

Just a little over a week after Melanie joined the Tallahassee program, we received word that another Shih Tzu, another 5 year old girl, was desperately needing rescue from a Chipley,
Gina
Gina
FL animal shelter.  Gina was in bad shape with severe skin infections and a lot of hair loss.  She is a sweet girl, though, and despite what had to be painful sores on her back, she was very obviously glad to get into a home.  Antibiotics and healthy food has already started to do it's work, and after just two weeks, we can already see a difference in her skin and hair.  We are confident that she will be healthy and ready for adoption soon!

Of course, because these dogs have significant health issues, they are accruing considerable vet bills, and so we as always desperately need donations toward their care.  If you can donate - even $10 or $20 - we, and the CSTR foster dogs, would greatly appreciate it.

To keep up on what's happening throughout the month with CSTR and our dogs, be sure to "like" our Facebook fan page. And if you can please help us with votes for the Pepsi Refresh contest, we would appreciate that, too!

Remember, as always, the dogs need us and so we need you.

September
October turned out to be a great month for CSTR adoptions!  We are thrilled for Ricky, Miley, Jaki and Chrissy!  Unfortunately, we only have one picture this month.

If you've been thinking about adding a new canine member to your family, be sure to visit our IL/IN Petfinder page and FL Petfinder page to see the dogs we currently have for adoption.

If you have adopted from Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue in the past three years, we would love to hear from you.  Do you have a current photo of your CSTR dog you could share?  We would love to collect updates on the dogs that have come through our program and found their forever homes, so if you are able, please send those photos and updates to  the CSTR Board.  Thank you!
