Tzu News
August/September, 2011
President's Message
As July and August have literally flown by, Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue continues to make a daily difference in the lives of dogs who desperately need us.

July began with a message from Chicago Animal Care & Control on July 7 about a Shih Tzu puppy  named Gizmo who had been brought

in with a badly broken leg.  Upon further examination, it was found that not only was his leg broken but also his hip and pelvis. After consulting with an orthopedic vet, the best course of treatment was determined to be amputation at the hip, and so Gizmo underwent the surgery on July 10.  Special thanks to everyone who contributed toward the surgery costs!  Gizmo did phenomenally well during and after the surgery and was standing up on his remaining 3 legs just a few hours later.  He has healed and improved dramatically over the course of six weeks and is now in a CSTR foster home, waiting

to find his forever home.

In addition to Gizmo, CSTR brought five other CACC dogs into our program as well as seven Missouri puppy mill dogs and two breeder release dogs from the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center, so we have been pretty busy throughout July and August.  One of the last dogs to come into the program in August was Miley, a little black and white Shih Tzu who spent the first half of her life in a Missouri puppy mill.  CSTR literally saved her life by taking her into our program.  It was found when she was spayed that she had pyometra, which would have taken her life had it remained untreated.  (Please, spay your pets!)

We do a lot of daily communicating about the "goings on" of Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue via our Facebook Fan Page, so if you are interested in keeping up with CSTR as we bring new dogs into the program, schedule events and fundraise be sure to "Like" us on Facebook.

Thank you to all of you who have stuck with us for the past 3 years.. we definitely couldn't do any of this without you!  The need does continue, though, so if you've been thinking about fostering, please be sure to visit our Foster/Volunteer Page and fill out the application.  And of course, the financial need is ongoing, so if you can donate, we would truly appreciate it.  Remember, as always, the dogs need us and so we need you.

If you have adopted from Crossroads Shih Tzu Rescue in the past three years, we would love to hear from you.  Do you have a current photo of your CSTR dog you could share?  We would love to collect updates on the dogs that have come through our program and found their forever homes, so if you are able, please send those photos and updates to cstr.board@crossroadsrescue.org.  Thank you!
