President's Message
Finally!  A break in the heat!  Summer, unfortunately, is winding down, and CSTR continues to rescue dogs that desperately need us.

We took two more dogs into the CSTR foster program.  2 year old Maltese Oliver found himself at a southern Illinois animal shelter, facing euthanasia due to overcrowding.  He was definitely neglected, with significant hair loss due to a flea allergy, but after treatment for the fleas, he is a happy guy who is ready to find a forever home of his own.

6 year old Joel is our latest Missouri puppy mill survivor who was released with a large number of dogs from a mill that was closing.  He came in over this past weekend so is currently being assessed and treated by CSTR's vet for an eye issue.  Otherwise, though, he seems like a sweet boy who is eager to start his new life outside the mill!

We would love to take more dogs at a time, but unfortunately, we are limited by available foster home space.  If you have been thinking about fostering, now's the time.  We - and the dogs - need you!

As I've been sharing in each month's newsletter, the downtown in the economy is most definitely hitting CSTR hard.  Donations are down dramatically, yet vet bills continue to rise.  Healthwise, Kyle continues to take two steps forward but then a step or two back, which has meant ongoing and numerous trips to the hospital as well as tests and medications.  He has recently been diagnosed with MRSA in his bladder, which is requiring very careful treatment.  The poor dog just can't seem to catch a break!  Our Brandon is currently being evaluated for Cushings, and we have a couple other dogs that continue to struggle, requiring daily medications, and so the bills continue to accumulate.  If you can help, you can donate through PayPal with your bank account or credit card - our email address for PayPal is cstr.board@crossroadsrescue.org - or you can send a check to our mailing address -

Of course, my other constant refrain is that the downturn in the economy continues to affect us in that fewer people are willing to foster, which directly affects how many dogs we can take in at a time.  If you are thinking about fostering, please consider this..  CSTR provides as much or as little assistance as you need.  All vet bills are paid by CSTR, and we will provide heartworm and flea preventative as well as dog food, if needed, also.  So if cost is all that is holding you back, please do not let it stop you from getting involved as a foster parent.

If you are not able to foster but would like to get involved, we can use your help, too!  There are many things that we need assistance with other than fostering, so if you have a knack for fundraising or like talking on the phone, or have other talents, please visit our Foster/Volunteer page and submit an application today!

Thank you, everyone.  As always, the dogs need us and so we need you.
